The struggle they go through....

Some experiences you've had while travelling will forever remain in your mind. I once went to see a small community in Ghana with absolutely no road access, and it brought to the forefront all of the silent struggles that so many people struggle with, day in and day out. The trek to the village was a challenge as well. The path was narrow, rocky, and rough, even for walking or riding a motorcycle. Many of the villagers have to use the same type of path and put themselves through strength, endurance, and patience to get in and out of the village.

The conditions of the village, shape a person's day-to-day life, in ways that most of us could not possibly comprehend. Think about having to carry food, water or other essential items along long, rough paths, because the vehicle has no way of reaching your home. Think about someone who is sick having to ride on the back of a motorcycle, and think about a pregnant woman having to travel down the same type of path, to get to a hospital that is miles away. This is a part of their lives, and it happens every day in villages off the beaten track.

The children and young adults in the village are affected in many more ways than older adults. The lack of road access to schools hinders their ability to attend classes, limits their opportunities and shapes their perception of what is possible. What should take minutes takes hours. What should be a short trip to school requires physical energy that many of us have never experienced. And yet, the children/young adults continue to press on, with determination to grow and learn despite the obstacles.

Speaking with some of the villagers, it became clear how much they have to give up, to meet their everyday needs. Carrying goods to market in larger towns is becoming increasingly difficult. Getting clean water is becoming increasingly complicated. Any attempts at developing the community are delayed due to the extreme difficulty of accessing the area. It really helped me appreciate the strength and resilience of people who call these places home.

However, when I stood there, watching their reality, I also felt a lot of hope. These communities, which are so often forgotten and overlooked, still have hopes, aspirations and a vision for a better tomorrow. They receive visitors warmly and continue to maintain their customs, and every day they wake up with the hope that tomorrow will be better.

It was inspirational enough for me to want to continue to advocate for communities like this. Communities that need safe and accessible roads, clean water, education, and the opportunity to participate equally in society. The struggles of these communities deserve recognition, and the stories of these communities deserve to be shared. Together, with our love and commitment, we can assist in bringing development to areas of the world that few people ever see.

I know it is a struggle but its also a beauty of untouched nature and sometines I think people living there are so lucky to have it. 😍
