Civilization Shouldn’t Mean Losing Values

in HiveGhanayesterday

The generation we are today looks like a rebranded era, well repackaged from what we were taught in the past. Decades ago, morals were held so high. People value and practice respect, self-control, and discipline, and when you have these attributes, you are seen as a person with good character, and that's the teaching that was passed undiluted.

But now, so many things are turning upside down, and when you try to follow those moral kinds of teachings, some people will see you as an outdated being, an uncivilized, and an unwise human.

This prompt says what’s one thing that has been normalized that makes no sense to me or gets me angry. To be sincere, there is one particular thing that doesn't make any sense to me anymore, and I get more angry seeing that disrespect is now a normal thing among most of our younger generations. No more respect for the elders; people disrespect strangers too simply because they aren't their parents. Go to our online platforms, and you will wonder how uncultured people are now. It wasn't like this before; sadly, it's becoming normalized.

There was a value to protect those days I was growing up; they are all fading away. It's a big concern. In those days, you could hardly walk past an elder without greeting such a person with respect; if you dared, another person would draw your attention to doing the right thing. It's all about showing respect, but nowadays, correct a younger person on that and receive the loudest hiss of your life. That's not even the catch ...

I was in a salon the other day; there weren't enough seats for everyone to sit down. I thought of going to the market to buy a few things and returning; maybe then there will be a chance for me to get my hair done. Just before I stepped out, an old woman standing up politely pleaded with one young girl of, let's say, 18 years old to please stand up from her chair for her so she could rest her weak legs, but surprisingly, this girl shouted at the old woman and reminded her that she has no right to ask for such a thing.

Her countenance alone was so disrespectful , and then her words went further and were super irritating, all because she was asked for a little favor. You know, it was surprising to observe such drama because the way I was trained, I am not supposed to be asked by an old person to stand up before doing the needful, but the girl was asked anyway, and she messed up totally. Where are some people's manners.

What happened to those great values that make us great humans? What about the insult when you correct younger ones about respect. Why do we now see respect as old-fashioned? You don't tell me what to do, you aren't my parent, this is my life , wow...these were the words of that lady in my story .

That being said, I feel that getting civilized shouldn't mean losing values. Yea, you can be modernized and yet uphold great values; it won't make you less of a human. Let's not normalize bad things but set a good example for the younger ones coming after us.

In recent times, people have really lost their morals.
There’s no respect for the old and it is being made to look like a normal thing, sadly.

That's how things are just unfolding and it's not that great atall
