My Academic Year Achievements as the Senior School Prefect
My academic year activities will forever remember or remain memorable and unique in the history of our school. Nevertheless, there was no remarkable achievement recorded by the school compared to that. There was progress not just progress but remarkable progress and there were victories, Sweet victories as well. The academic Year had a good begining .Before, the school lacked or there were shortage of staff to handle some key subjects: such as mathematics, economics and introductory technology. But with the additional teachers, the school was able to boast of enough teachers both teaching and non teaching staff to handle those key subjects like mathematics, economics and introductory technology. Another remarkable achievement and event of the year was the donation of laboratory equipments for the academic year and completion of school library by the Parent-Teacher Association of the school. In a brief ceremony on the occasion our principal then Mrs Iqwo Ntien thanked the parent association and the rest of the people for their kind gesture towards the school development.and assured them that the school would maximize this great opportunity and put the equipments into proper used for the benefit of our young and experience scientists for the general development of our state.
More good things accomplished was inter-school debate. The final of the series which too place in our next neighbors community school ukana iba, finally drew a large crowd of people from another school But it was rather painful to realized or noticed that the winning team which also happened to be the host school manage to beat us with only a point to emerge the winner.
Nevertheless, it was huge success and joy to see that our able team did well to reached the finals honorably and successful.However, our drama group and our dancing competition brought greater glory by winning first and second price respectively to the school.
Then came the soccer season and our football team the school first eleven a combine force with our second team did us proud very well.The final of the state inter-school football match took place at Okopeto high school Stadium, Abak.It was very memorable occasion.The State Governor was around by represented.Commissioners and other top-ranging officials were also there present.Our dynamic principal and her staff were also not left out.After the first half the spectators discovered. that it was a match of giants- eleven tigers fighting against eleven lions.When the referee finally blew his whistle our school had won the match three goals to two.Immediately, shouts of joy rest the air.Our school name was echoed by those singing our Praises in various and dynamic ways: like. Brave Lions! Great Lions Boys! De lion ! De Lions! De Lions Boys!. Immediately my school mates lifted me up started throwing me up and down. Indeed, it was a great victory sweet victory. Interestingly, the school moved from one victory to other. After the soccer victory, came academic success of our predecessor. Their school certificate examination were out. What a brilliant and colourful result it was, On the whole.the school scored ninety percent. There were only 10 failure out of a class of one hundred students, Isn't that great? Indeed it was a great and beautiful result Though we hope to smashed our predecessor by scoring not just ninety percent as they did but hundred percent. During this academic year they victory could have been all round victory if not for one sad incident that happened. This was the student riot that took place in the dining hall. Indeed, it was a day that looked like war broke up. There was a disorder or crises everywhere. Plates, forks, spoons, and cups together with bottles flew dangerously in the air like missiles without control. Doors and windows glasses were damaged and shattered
The students were protesting against school authorities and the school dormitory Master who also happened to be the Food Coordinator for giving them rotten plantain often. On sighted the students on that faithful day coming out in mass. The cooks and even the Food Master ran for their life. It was a team of policemen that saved and calmed down the situation that day with their teargas. No doubt the students obviously deserves to some blame for angrily destroying school or government properties. All the same, the lesson of the sad event must not be forgotten in a haste, that no food coordinator or school authorities can cheat all the students at all the time. Because, it's on record or been recorded that some principal together with their staff usually collide with food coordinator to cheat students just for financially gain. Moreover, I was asked to suggest the solutions in order to prevent a recurrence of such an ugly incident in this our great school. I suggested that the present and the current food coordinator who's a personal friend of the food master should be removed and replaced by another one immediately. There should be no more communication gap between the students and staff nor between the food Master and the food prefects. Fortunately, for us after the incident the academic year success did not end on a bad note.The school Agriculture Master did not only or merely teach in theories but also in practice. The harvest from the school large and well maintained farm was simply fantastic and totally incomparable in the history of the school so far.The good news of our large success of our farm scarlet. So Federal Government in form of a financial grant gave the school some amount of money for its successful operation. In conclusion, I must say that as the Senior Prefect of the school, I felt highly delighted and proud that during my tenure of office, the school grew from strength to strength, from one success to another and from victory to victory.
