Folktales made our childhood experience fun and interesting, the stories were passed orally by our parents and these stories were also passed to them by their parents through words of mouth ,it moves from generation to generations and these stories unite us and build a strong form of unity between us.
As a child, my mom wasn't a story teller, she sings more often, but regardless of my father's busy schedule he finds time to share stories with I and my siblings , he tells us animal stories, historical stories, stories about our ancestors and many others and one interesting fact about this folktales is that they are usually didactic, they always have moral lessons that would guides you through life, folklores serves as inspirations to us at some point in our lives.
One of my favorite folklores, is the story about the Tortoise and the Dog, like they would always start by saying ;
Once upon a time, in a peaceful village, the animals were all united and peaceful, there lived a tortoise and a dog.
The tortoise was so slow, that every other animal called him a sluggish and the slowest among them, and the dog was so energetic and fast , he would always mock the tortoise, calling him the slowest and most sluggish animal.
The tortoise would always arrive meeting and ceremonies late, and other animals would make fun of the tortoise, cursing and mocking him for being slow and late always.
One day, the Tortoise said he would love to go on a race with the Dog, because the dog was always fond of challenging and mocking him for being slow among other animals, when the dog heard about the race he laughed at the tortoise, mocked him and agreed to race with him, he had so much pride that he called all the animals , including the king , Lion to come and witness his victory.
When the day of the race arrived and the villagers were all gathered to watch the race, at the start point of the race, the Dog bragged and praised himself loud, he dragged and talked about how he was going to defeat the Tortoise and made jest of him in the presence of everyone, but the tortoise stayed calm.
The race started and in no time the dog was ahead of the tortoise, he turned and laughed at the tortoise, laid on the ground watching and laughing at the tortoise, he demanded for a huge portion of meal and ate watching the tortoise coming slowly, the dog was almost at the finished line, when he stopped to brag and slept off, while he was asleep the tortoise crossed the finish line and won the race.
The tortoise was praised and celebrated, while the dog woke up and was disappointed and went home in shame.
The folklore, tells the story of consistency, because the tortoise was consistent and slow, it also tells us that slow but steady wins the race and the disadvantages of being boastful, just like the boastful dog.
This might seem unbelievable, but folklore taught us to suspend our disbelieve.
Thanks for reading ♥️
Sending you Ecency love

Thank you
This is the story where tortoise didn’t act cunny and selfish.
Even the Bible says we shouldn’t praise ourselves to people but dog was so full of itself and lost the race to tortoise.
Yea, he wasn't cunny here 😂
Pride lead to the downfall of Dog.
Thanks for stopping by.
