The One Thing I Want This Christmas

in HiveGhana5 days ago (edited)

It’s officially 27 days to Christmas, and I’ve been caught in my thoughts about what might change this year. A lot has been happening in my country. The ridiculous inflation, the insecurity, and the sadness of losing loved ones before the season. Still, I’m trying to stay hopeful that the air won’t be as tight as I imagine.

Right now, I'm looking forward to what the season brings me. Over here, christmas preparations usually start in early December. Schools and churches get ready for their carol nights, children rehearse their songs to present, and many employees pray their salaries arrive on time so they can plan their bonuses around the celebrations. And, of course, people begin to think about gifting their loved ones.

I’m never left out of that. Even though I could do without a Christmas celebration, I still try to do something thoughtful for the people I care about. But last year, I decided to focus on myself. I gifted myself two pairs of sneakers, a Vans and an Air Force 1 from Nike, and they’ve been my favourite Christmas gifts so far. As someone who prefers staying indoors, I felt they would motivate me to step outside a bit more, maybe for a Christmas party or a hangout with friends. I haven’t worn them yet, but knowing I finally spent a good sum on my "wants" still brings me joy.

This year, I have just one thing I’d love to receive. I know many people may want intangible gifts like love, peace, and unity within their families, and while I also hope for the same, I would really like A NEW PHONE. I’ve spent a significant amount of money repairing my current one because original Samsung parts are quite expensive to purchase. Sometimes the cost of a single part feels high enough to buy a completely new device. That was the case with my screen. I finally found a good replacement three months, though. So far, it has worked well, but I still worry something could go wrong.

I also want a new phone simply because I love phones. Even though I'm disciplined enough to use a device for two to three years unless it’s damaged, I don’t think we always need long explanations for wanting new things. Sometimes it’s just the excitement of exploring a fresh UI, trying new customization options, or enjoying the ease that comes with an upgrade. For me, that feeling is reason enough. And with my plan to pursue mobile photography seriously next year, a phone with a better camera would be a huge advantage to me.

I already have plans to buy one in January 2026, but it would be wonderful to receive it as a Christmas gift. That alone would save me some money I could use for other responsibilities next year. Maybe a Santa looking through hive posts will see this. Maybe someone random will make me an offer. Or maybe not. But it’s just a wish, and somehow, I hope it comes true, just as I hope everyone else finds something new to brighten their Christmas.

Wishing you lots of love for the coming holidays.🌸💕
