Fino a qualche anno fa gli unici uomini che si depilavano erano i culturisti, ora sempre più è diventata pratica abituale di maggior parte della fascia fino ai 30 anni e comunque di una buona porzione anche oltre tale età. Si è fatto strada nel senso estetico comune che anche l'uomo deve esibire un corpo privo di imperfezioni, che segue le tendenze del momento: tatuato, tonico, scolpito, abbronzato.
