Be careful, there are many fake accounts joining Hive everyday

Every day whenever I find some time, I go to the created section on Hive and look for some good articles, I read them and vote them. Apart from my individual voting, I have also been curating with @indiaunited community account. A few days back I did curate some of the posts in the created section and went to bed when I woke up in the morning, I noticed few comments on those posts saying that the posts were just fake and the accounts were fake accounts where someone was trying to farm the #introduceyourself section.

This was really very shocking for me. Only after reading the comments on the posts I curated, I found that the accounts were fake because the users were just spinning the same contents again and again and on multiple accounts to just get some big rewards for their #introduceyourself post. After seeing those caution notes from some of the commentators, I went to verify a few of the posts and I noticed the same writing pattern on multiple similar posts.

I can't imagine people would go to an extent where they create a fake account as the account creation is free here and write a neat and nice introduce yourself to post just for the sake of some good rewards. We the community members find it hard to differentiate between authentic posts and fake posts. Nowadays the scammers or the looters write a very good #introduceyourself post with nice images on it. They might use the same set of images again to create another #introduceyourself post after a few months and nobody would know about it. Some people even copy-paste the same content again or just rewrite the same content or just use an article spinner to escape plagiarism.

Nowadays, my curating pattern has changed a lot. I have stopped #introduceyourself posts unless and until I know the person personally. I still focus my curation on the created section of the chain but I stick to people who are good writers than people who are pretty new with a low reputation. I hardly vote any posts that are from authors that having a reputation below 50. Even if I come across a good #introduceyourself post, I try to verify with sharp eyes before voting them.

I would like to use this article as an opportunity to send a caution note to my fellow Hive friends to curate carefully especially on posts that are under #introduceyourself tag and that are suspicious. It is better to avoid curating such posts if we are not sure about the author. But at the same time, we also have the responsibility to welcome a genuine newcomer. We have to just be very careful while curating but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't curate the new members at all. They deserve good votes if they are really very good. That will only motivate them to stick around the platform.

Thanks. 🙂

Sorry, you don't have enough staked BEER in your account. You need 24 BEER in your virtual fridge to give some of your BEER to others. To view or trade BEER go to hive-engine.com

This is really bad, it will totally affect genuine newbies in the site. I don't know why people act like this. 😢

Yes that's right. It is a big drawback of this platform. It was indeed a bad experience for me.

Wow true story...
I’ve seen few of those accounts myself..

Ya it was indeed a bad experience. 🙄

Sadly yes :(

A bit sad to hear this as I also sometime visit the introduceyourself tag to greet new users.

Yes we have to be a little more careful while choosing the post we vote and comment. 😀

Agreed. I guess we have too 😉

I can imagine why anyone would go to all the trouble of creating fake accounts just for a few pennies. I think you stand to make so much more by creating and curating daily. It just amazes me to see things like this and how people are always looking to take a short cut.

It is not pennies, most of the well written introduce yourself post get payment excess of $20. Does it not sound easy introduce yourself daily?

May this one of the reason we have lot more accounts and very less active.

I still wonder how people come up with so good "introduce yourself" post when they know no one here. No one guiding them and they brilliantly figured out the tags and what to post in first post.

OK didn't realize they made so much on a post, it's truly messed up that these people are going to ruin it for everyone.

Yes the spammers have a good sense of writing fake introduce yourself posts and almost daily. It is a good way to earn good income for posts.

Ya like @r1s2g3 mentioned, some of the posts even get more than 40$ vote value. So this is a serious issue for the chain. Every single day many fake accounts are created just to farm introduceyourself tag.

Hi, I look at new posts everyday.
Re Fake accounts, I don't see the necessity
An account on Hive only has the value for the effort someone puts into it, eg, HIVE is about community and communication, there doesn't seem to be any reason for a fake account, if someone posts something and people engage then it is doing what it should. if no one engages because they don't engage then the account becomes redundant.

Yes agreed but the problem here is that scammer creates a new fake account every single day and farms around 20-40$ by making introduction posts.

Oh this is kind of strange, thanks for sharing this information bade bhai.

Yes, bro. I also felt very strange. We have to be careful.

ok I will be careful of this types of accounts.

Cool 👍

really a bad thing. The important thing is that real people like us stay in touch!

Yes, they just make one post, farm the rewards, and walk away. Then create another account, do the same thing and it keeps going on and on.

That's such a bad thing, but through these actions, we realize how important Hive is and that people see potential and maybe it's considered a real competitor :)

Yes, we have to now be very careful while visiting the introduce yourself posts. 🙂

we DEFINITELy need an Influencer Faucet.... we need a way to hand out hive wallets to influencers on twitter reddit etc who have accounts with X amount of existing years or followers or posts etc.

Yes, that can be done only by creating accounts for them. But the problem is most of the big twitter users are not familiar with crypto yet. Onboarding people to hive first takes the toll of introducing them to the crypto world.

we need @wemohen and @oracled 's STING ninja for free account signups
