I was at the greatwolf lodge with the kids overnight was a nice time for them, and they had this neat penny press thing you put in a buck and a penny choose your design and twist the handle and after a few turns you get your pressed penny, this got me thinking of a silver version....

Aight, let’s peel the onion on this silver press idea because the more I chew on it, the more I think you’re onto something actually savage.

Forget the waterpark souvenirs. We are talking about setting up a literal mint on the floor of the Vegas Coin Show in 2026. You roll in with a custom hand-crank beast gears exposed, heavy steel flywheel and you let the plebs physically mint their own silver.

The Setup & The Math

Here’s the raw deal. You aren't smashing pennies; you’re smashing .999 fine silver.

  1. The Metal : Silver is sitting around $2.60 CAD a gram right now. If you’re buying 1g blanks in bulk (don't do the sheet, dawg, sheets jam and the scrap/waste management on a show floor is a nightmare), you’re paying maybe $3.20 - $3.40 a pop with the premium. Let’s call it $3.50 CAD landed cost to be safe.

  2. The Machine : You need a hardened steel die set and a manual press capable of putting out a few tons of pressure without blowing a gasket. You could adapt a heavy duty arbor press or build a custom "penny press" style housing. Let's budget $4,000 for a rig that looks cool and won't break when some steroid-head tries to crank it too fast.

  3. The Venue : Vegas table fees? You’re looking at $1,000 - $1,500 for a decent spot. Add flight, hotel, and booze (it’s Vegas), and your overhead for the trip is easily $3,500.

The Grift (Revenue)

So you’re in the hole roughly $7,500 before you sell a single coin (machine + trip).

Now, what does a customer pay? They aren't buying bullion; they buying the story. They scan a QR code, pay crypto or fiat, pick a design (maybe "Vegas Bear 2026" or "Rekt City"), load the blank into the chute, and CRANK.

You charge $20 CAD (or $15 USD).

Cost: $3.50

Price: $20.00

Profit per crank: $16.50

The Break-Even

To cover your $7,500 startup cost, you need to sell roughly 455 coins. That’s it.

If the show runs for 3 days, you need to average about 19 coins an hour (assuming an 8-hour day). That’s one customer every 3 minutes, that is a fair bit of customers so it would be risky.

Everyone at that show is selling static metal in plastic slabs. Boring. You’re selling the action. You’re letting them feel the resistance of the metal yielding. It touches that primal part of the stacker brain.

Even if you don't make the bank in the show you could still put the machine to use, lots of places and occasions could go with such an experience making something a little more precious.

What do y'all think this thing would flop or pop ?

@bitcoinman's bits of wisdom

  • Invest only what you can afford to lose and be mindful of the potential risks.
  • Unless you can accept delivery stay away from futures and stick to physical.
  • Leverage is a great tool for losing money fast.
  • Numismatics for the lows stick to smart stacking baby.
  • Be cautious of new schemes in crypto, like ICOs, DeFi, and NFTs, do your research before investing.

1/10th Troy oz. 999 Silver Elongated Bear rounds from 'The Bear.'

!PIMP

I know of someone who ran 1/10 oz rounds through different penny smashers. I had one in the machine in Drumheller but chickened out.

I think they'd sell for sure. I know I really wanted to mint my own coin at the Winnipeg Mint, but when I was there the machine was broken.😪
