I have been sitting here staring at this Gemini dashboard for three days straight just watching the little loading circle spin like a complete idiot because the video upload is totally cooked. This is the problem with relying on these big corporate tools for a workflow because the second their server room gets a sniffle your whole business catches pneumonia eh. It is honestly embarrassing that a company with that much cash can have a core feature just sit there dead while we all just twiddle our thumbs. I am at the point where I am done waiting for some dev in California to flip a switch so I am looking into self hosting my own setup but man it is a mess out there.
There is no magic pill model that just does everything like the marketing hype says so I am probably gonna have to stitch together a Frankenstein monster of three or four different things to get it working right. I am thinking some Python scripts to chop the video into frames and then feeding those into a local LLM while a separate audio model handles the transcription side of things. It is gonna be a total pain in the ass to build and my server fans are probably gonna sound like a jet taking off but at least I will actually own the tech instead of being a hostage to a subscription that doesn't even work.
Building it local means no more "service unavailable" or "too many requests" or whatever other garbage excuse they throw at us when their infra buckles under the weight of everyone trying to make AI waifus at the same time. It is a lot of work to get the pipelines moving and I am probably gonna be pulling my hair out over dependency errors for a week but the peace of mind is worth it. Plus once I have it running on my own hardware nobody can rug me on a Tuesday afternoon when I have actual work to finish. Sometimes you just gotta stop being lazy and build the damn thing yourself because these big tech sleaze balls clearly do not care about your deadlines.
