A Lovely Walk up Mam Tor in Derbyshire, UK

in The City of Neoxian2 years ago (edited)

I've wanted to walk up Mam Tor (which is a 517 metre high hill near Castleton in Derbyshire), for awhile. Finally did it this morning! Mam Tor is the site of a prehistoric hill fort that once hosted a settlement of Celtic people.

Mam Tor also means ‘Mother Hill’. It gets its name from the landslides that produced other 'mini hills'.

I don't normally like walking up hills but I made an exception with this one. We were lucky to get a car parking space as it gets quite busy at times, we then started the steep climb to the top.

Even though it was a fine day it was still windy nearer the top. Not great when you don't like heights and vertigo kicks in.

We continued uphill walking on the flagstones. Interestingly, some of them had plaques embedded in them telling the story of the hill settlement.

We finally reached the summit where the trig point was, where we had a few minutes rest.

After taking in the wonderful views, we then made our way back down to the car.

We called in at a local cafe for an appropriately named dessert called 'rocky road'.

I see you've found a perfect place for training and that dessert 🤤

You have to treat yourself to a dessert after all that exercise. It's in the keep fit manifesto. 😁

Well, I couldn't have said nicer 😂

🙂🧗‍♂️🏃‍♀️

Exactly as you say 😂

Wow! Such a wonderful site for a walk! Rocky Roads look too good to be real!

Vegan as well. Very nice. 🙂

Oh! What a real treat! Would love to have two pieces to take home!

Now that's being greedy. Why didn’t I think of that?? 😁
