Stop being too excited over that Job!

Do I sound like a sadist? Isn’t it something you should be happy about? Many of you have worked so hard and invested hugely in what you have become today. Many rewards you get are basically what you probably deserve.

You don’t take note of the late nights, the risks, the investments and psychological traumas you encountered in your journey of becoming you. These efforts are undermined by us that we probably don’t mind if we are underpaid for a long period of time. Sarcastically, if many of us are being given a contract of a fixed salary till we retire, such offers will definitely be filled without minding an inflating economy, evolving policies and the world’s dynamism.

Now Get It Straight

You have every right to be excited but let your excitement burst from the correlation between your qualifications and a standard working condition of the job. When you think of the intense effort being accumulated in being good at what you do, you will certainly come to a place of rest. Hyper excitement in a new job which most times may be inspired by our years of unemployment is mainly responsible for underpayment for a long period of time, without taking note of our value.

When you get a job, make sure you understand and can relate well with the working condition, which is not necessarily your salary rate but the hours of work required of you, health insurance, trainings and other allowances.

Getting a job is a Win/Win

A firm is likewise at a winning side because your collaboration is expected to make a difference. Hence, you are not just the one favored, I must say. Therefore, such firm yet to employ is expectant of the ideas you will bring to spur changes. Unfortunately, especially in this part of Africa, getting a job always seems like employers are doing aspirants a huge favor of becoming employed, which is sadly due to the prevailing unemployment rate.

I win, they win. That was and should still remain the basic rule!

When you get a job or seeking for one, take along with you your worth, not for you to become proud by rejecting all below standard jobs but actually becoming aware of what you can do and the position you can manage if an opportunity comes to light.

Don’t forget your worth no matter where your current situation is!

Don’t let your economy define your years of hard work.

In that underpaid job, still know your worth and in that standard job, maintain and innovate your worth

When you know your worth, you will bargain better
