Vintage Silver Highlights - Northwest Territorial Mint NWTM Eagle Trade Unit

Collection (13) (1).jpg

Collection Highlights -

I'm back to share another vintage round from the Northwest Territorial mint. I have shared peace from them before a couple of weeks ago and covered their unfortunate demise. It went under due to a bankruptcy that was caused from fraud and mismanagement that led to federal charges and the customer is losing 25 million dollars.

While they meant had a shaky past, still enjoy collecting all the vintage silver I can find in the generic bin and a generic prices. Lets me spend a little bit of extra time researching needs and figuring out where they came from and adds a bit of fun to it and helps me get more value out of my purchases. Having roles and roles of buffaloes just doesn't get me excited when I buy silver.

Here's a link to the other Northwest Territorial Mint round that I shared, as well as links to both the background information on the Northwest Territorial mint, and the link to the exact round that I'm sharing on agroundworld.com the information is relatively sparse and does not give much more information other than what we can see with our eyes.

Obverse

The adverse is coming in strong on this round in my opinion. It has a pretty badass eagle sitting on top of a branch with a nice banner on its feet that says in God we trust. It also has going across the top a nice rated edge and it's a circle with the words United States of America and one troy ounce silver. Very patriotic feeling and high resemblance towards the money that was being printed at the time.

Reverse

The reverse looks like a typical silver trade unit although the scales in my opinion are very plain Jane and do not have the same level of details that many of the other rounds has. This one really seems to come at a very basic level of an outline without much more detail. If you look below the scale, and above the point 999 fine silver you will find the micro engraved NWTM that helps identify this round as being minted by the Northwest Territorial mint. While small it is on there which I find important and helpful.

From looking around it appears they must have been a fair number of these rounds as there is not much of a premium for those vintage enthusiasts like myself who are trying to find them. I think the overall design is a little mixed, while the front of the round I think is a very high score with a great looking eagle and a tremendous amount of detail in the engraving, the reverse is the exact opposite where it feels like they spent all the money on the die for the front of the round and had to go with the 5th grade version on the back.

I'm going to guess that these were minted in high enough quantities that my other vintage collectors on here have one of these and won't be too impressed.
