I have added a new exercise to my digital drawing practices. After watching several YouTubers creating from this exercise, I felt inspired to try it myself. The objective is quite simple: starting from randomly made abstract shapes, we have to create drawings that follow the silhouette of the form. This greatly increases our level of abstraction and our ability to solve drawings in creative ways. Today I’m showing you the result of one of these practices, and I’m sharing my blank sheet of shapes in case you want to use it to practice and create your own drawings. For this practice, I’m using Ibis Paint as my drawing application, and I’m limiting myself to a single brush.
He agregado a mis prácticas de dibujo digital un nuevo ejercicio. Después de ver a varios youtubers creando a partir de este ejercicio me animé. El objetivo es bastante simple: crear a partir de formas abstractas hechas al azar; tenemos que hacer dibujos que sigan la silueta de la forma. Esto aumenta mucho nuestro nivel de abstracción y de resolver dibujos de forma creativa. Hoy les muestro el resultado de una de estas prácticas y comparto mi hoja de formas en blanco por si la quieren usar para practicar y crear sus propios dibujos. Para esta práctica estaré usando Ibis Paint como aplicación de dibujo y la estaré limitando a un único pincel.
As you can see, the shapes I made were quite simple and organic, with rounded edges and pronounced curves. I also created this palette of pastel and light tones because I think it goes very well with what I want to convey in each drawing. An important point is that, rather than making complete works, we are going to look for forms that follow the base figure and, above all, are drawn with free and loose lines.
Como ven, las formas que hice fueron bastante simples y orgánicas, con bordes redondeados y curvas pronunciadas. Además, creé esta paleta de tonos pasteles y ligeros porque creo que va muy bien con lo que quiero transmitir en cada dibujo. Algo importante es que, más que hacer obras completas, vamos a buscar formas que sigan la figura base y que sobre todo sean dibujadas con líneas libres y sueltas.
Well, I already showed the first results, and it was this sheet full of pastel kittens in different positions. I really liked them, especially the ones with yarn balls and the one inside the black hole—a reference to Life is Strange, one of my favorite video games, which I highly recommend if you don’t know it.
Bueno, ya adelantaba los primeros resultados y fue esta hoja llena de gatitos pasteles en distintas posiciones. Me gustaron mucho, sobre todo los que tienen ovillos de estambre y el que está dentro del agujero negro, una referencia a Life is Strange, uno de mis videojuegos favoritos, muy recomendado si no lo conocen.
The next sheet had an animal theme: I drew a crow, a cobra, a goldfish, a happy puppy, a crocodile, and a pelican eating a fish. There are some hidden details, like a reference to “crocodile tears,” a saying from my country. My favorites are the pelican, which turned out very funny, and of course the puppy wagging its tail and showing its belly, all happy.
La siguiente hoja fue una con temática de animales: dibujé un cuervo, una cobra, un pez dorado, un perrito feliz, un cocodrilo y un pelícano comiéndose un pez. Hay algunas cosas ocultas, como una referencia a “lágrimas de cocodrilo”, un dicharacho de mi país. Mis favoritos son el pelícano, que quedó muy divertido, y por supuesto el perrito moviendo la cola y enseñando la pancita todo feliz.
The last sheet was a compilation of objects and scenes taking the shape of the abstract blot. A dreamcatcher, a breakfast with coffee, apple pie and cheese, a guitar, a scene of a living room with a sphere, an umbrella, and some rain boots—this scene is being observed by a fish from its fishbowl, perhaps wanting to know the world. I also drew a writer’s desk with a typewriter, papers, and books, and a bouquet of flowers with a ribbon for Valentine’s Day. My favorites are the scene with the fish and the bouquet of flowers with all those little blossoms.
La última hoja fue una recopilación de objetos y escenas tomando la forma de la mancha abstracta. Un atrapasueños, un desayuno con café, pastel de manzana y queso, una guitarra, una escena de un salón con una esfera, un paraguas y unas botas de lluvia. Esta escena está siendo divisada por un pez desde su pecera, quizás quiere conocer el mundo. También dibujé un escritorio de un escritor con una máquina de escribir, papeles y libros, y un ramo de flores con una cinta por San Valentín. Mis favoritos son la escena del pez y el ramo de flores con todas esas flores pequeñas.
