Cycling competitions / Competencia ciclistas

in Cycling7 months ago

Two week ago, the 2023 Vuelta a Venezuela Femenina took place in Caracas, one of the most important annual cycling competitions held in the country.

I was lucky that it passed very close to my house, in front of Avenida Bolivar which was closed for the occasion.

The competition took me by surprise, so I was able to take some photos with my phone, and regretted once again not having my DSLR camera on hand for this type of demanding photography.

I tried to capture some of the professional cycling atmosphere around the event, with its respective sponsors of cycling brands and supplements, bicycles and spare parts, and of course, fans and supporters cheering on the cyclists.

Looking closely, you can see the difference between a professional racing bicycle and bicycles for amateurs at different levels. I suppose there are also several hundred dollars of difference.

The ergonomics and types of materials used stand out, which I suppose must be lightweight.

There were also some live announcers, apparently radio broadcasters, who sincerely give the competition a more familiar and provincial touch, perhaps because of their way of narrating in a county fair style, very typical of towns in Venezuela.

I was able to find out that this event was officially organized by the Venezuelan Cycling Federation, this being the last of the 5 circuits scheduled for this competition in different states of the country.

The total route is 80 km. So it's several hours of pedaling and running the circuit, at least more than 12 hours!

In this circuit, more than 40 professional riders formed into 12 teams representing several states participated.

It is always inspiring to see sports heroes doing their best to surpass their own marks.

Sort:

Cool to see you had a cycling race in front of your house 😀
Is female cycling also becoming more popular over there? Over here in Europe it is! It's really becoming more professional.

I think you made a mistake with your calculation because I don't think it will take more than 12 hours to ride 80 kilometers.

Yeah. Now that you say it, I must have read it wrong or perhaps looked at the accumulated time of several circuits, since the distance-time relationship doesn't make much sense. Jajaja

I was also pleasantly surprised that it was a women's competition, with teams formed, it seemed like a solid organization.

Wow, despite not using a digital DSLR, you still took great pictures.
Competition of 40 riders, mehn that is a survival of the fittest actually. I would love to witness such an event some day. Great post.

Hi friend! Thanks for your comment!! It's always good to see exceptional people giving their best!!

Cycling as I can see is taking a different shape in your country, Venezuela.
After the race, hope there was a winner?

Well yes, this is a diverse country, also in its love of bikes, I didn't stay until the end to see the awards...
