MIKE on a BIKE

in Cycling3 years ago

Nice day yesterday, temperature got up to 66 degrees / 19 Celsius ))) So off I go out of my driveway for a bike ride...

Haven't had a ride since the Fall.. Head north passed "The Maples" over the railroad tracks...where there is little traffic and nice scenery....

Track is the middle of three branches running down Long Island. This one terminating at Orient Point ...

Head for Mill Road which circles backs and crosses over these same tracks to the South.

Just south of the tracks I stop where High tension wires run along the tracks. Been down the dirt road before so decide to check it out again...

That's my bike next to the base of the pole...

Work of some local artist dresses up the base ...

Near where the dirt road ends old garbage debris litters the area.. Good to see no resent dumping..

This is why the road ends, a swampy pond... But there is a trail through the woods heading to the railroad tracks...

A short pedal I reach the tracks...

Lets go see the pond...

Got to get up on the tracks to get a view of the pond. You can see the area has no human footprint besides the train tracks.. No one comes this way... Despite being close to populated areas if something happened to me, like a broken leg or heart attack, without a cell phone it's goodbye Charlie..

Nice size pond, part of the Peconic River system. These ponds in Manorville and nearby Calverton feed the river with their natural springs...

Decided I went far enough and turned around heading down the tracks... But before I did a train was headed my way from Orient...

Had plenty of time to get out of the way but wasn't much room where the pond was.. Steep embankment left little room..

Instead of going back the way I came, followed the train back to the road.. But had to walk the bike, can't ride on the large track bed stone...

Will make another post showing the way back home...

Looks beautiful out!

Great day didn't want to waste it..

lol Mike on a Bike! Great shots. I do not like being that close to passing trains!

Your right in retrospect so close to a speeding train was stupid.. Thanks for comment..

Kind of a short train, but at least not ear splitting with a lot of noise. Looks like it was a nice ride.

It was loud.. Bastard blew the horn just as he passed me.. Limited ridership out to Orient Point.. They were at one time going to end service out there.. Was costing them money.. must still due..
