RE: On the Cusp

My kids never took out a school loan. I made a lot of mistakes as a parent, but this is one thing I did right. With all the challenges they have had to face in life, paying off school loans was not one of them.

We were not rich. We never really owned a bedroom set until two years ago (married 50 years by then!), but my kids didn't take out school loans :) They did go to public college, though.

That's great! My parents did that for my sister which was good for her. I think being able to settle the debt and be able to take other important steps in life is really important. In the last 2 years, I've been really aggressive in getting rid of this damn anchor. I won't let them make 300% off me that's for sure LOL

Public college is the way to go! I started out at a community college, finished that and then went to public college. I took it in small steps which was perfect for me. I was not the best student, but that's when it was free. When I was paying for it.. that's another story :D

Now my granddaughter is looking at graduate school. She managed to get through undergrad without debt...a struggle, but grad school will be a problem. We'll do everything we can to help her, but it's going to be mostly up to my daughter because my husband and I are pensioners these days.

Good luck in paying down the loans quickly. The student debt industry in this country is robbing a generation of financial potential.
