I had some big plans for the past couple of weekends. Okay, maybe not big plans, but I had some stuff I wanted to get done now that the weather is starting to be a bit more cooperative. In fact, a week ago this past Saturday was just about one of the most perfect days we have had in 2026 so far. Unfortunately life, or more specifically @mrsbozz had other plans for me.
Her parents recently bought a new house, and so the past couple of weekends have been spent helping them get packed up and moved over to then new address. I'm a bit sad to say they still have a long way to go, but we are making progress. It's actually kind of funny, despite the fact that I did not grow up in their old house like my wife did, I still feel a bit of sadness about them leaving it behind.
Just the other day I mentioned to her that I didn't get to spend my last Christmas there. You might recall I was sick this past year for Christmas, so I spent the majority of my time at my own house staring at the ceiling or the toilet bowl. I didn't get to participate in any of the fun traditions we have built over the past several decades.

Despite that, this is still a good move for them and I am excited for them. The old house was great when they were younger and had three kids running around, but now that is just the two of them, they really don't need all that space. Likewise, as they get older, it's good to be part of a community where the yardwork and all of that is taken care of by someone else.
It will be a shift for them, but I think they will settle in just fine. They just might need to find some new hobbies. Especially my father in law. He used to love to putter around the yard, so it will be hard for him to let that go I think.
Speaking of puttering, I have some rocks I have been meaning to move from one flower bed to another for several years now. That was on my list to get started last weekend. The lawn is ready to have its first cut of the year, so I need to get to that sometime too.
The problem is, the next two or three weekends in a row my wife and I have plans that I made for us a long time ago. Meanwhile, I need to get our travel trailer home from storage at my parents house. Get it cleaned, washed, de-winterized, repack the wheel bearings, check the gas lines for leaks, and get it all packed up for our first camping trip of the season at the end of May.

No big deal right? Meanwhile, we also need to get the power washer from my brother in law so we can get the deck ready to go for the summer. Put away all the winter stuff and pull out all the summer stuff from the shed. @mrsbozz wants the windows on the house professionally washed, and I need to get the garage cleaned up at some point.
No rush...
I don't want to say I am annoyed that my last two weekends have been blown up. I don't think that is quite the right word. It's been for the greater good, and I fully acknowledge that. I just hope the weather cooperates so I can get the rest of this stuff done. The good news is, it looks like the rain is going to hold off for a bit, but we really need the temps to stay above freezing for a while now.

Is their new house near that track? If it is, it's an awesome place 😍 I have track and bigger railway station near my childhood house and I miss it here where I am now. Ozzy's Crazy Train playing in my head. 🤗
No, they are a bit away from the train tracks. We have one near our house though.
Maybe you are a bit tired of the noise cargo trains are making (if there are some), for me it's like a lullaby.
You know, I thought it was going to be annoying after we moved into the area, but I kind of love it now. There is something comforting about the rumble as they go by and the horn as they cross the roads.
These chores and obligations needs to be done especially helping out your in laws move. It will be one less thing for you and Mrs Bozz to worry about when they're settled in more suitable living conditions.
Yes, for sure. I don't see how they would have been able to manage up to this point without our help.
We've been busy in the garden and already cut the grass a couple of times. Stuff is growing like mad here. Enjoy your travels.
Thank you, I am probably going to cut mine tomorrow.
Ah, sometimes it's just best to go with the flow, right? And take your precious time when you can get it.
An interesting expression, to 'putter' around. I always say 'potter'. I had to do a bit of digging - 'putter' is more common in North America, whereas everywhere else seems to say 'potter'. Words are so interesting!
That is interesting. It has always been putter for me, but that makes sense given I have never left North America. Stuff gets done eventually, it's not like I am going to tell my wife "no" anyway :)
Not if you know what's good for you haha!
You've never left North America? Ever? Even on holiday? That's wild.
Nope, only other country I have ever been to is Canada.
Are you sure you aren't British ... I mean talking about the weather is out national pastime 🤣
My genetics say I mostly am to be honest. That and Western European.
