I think it was a crazy mistake on his end, but probably being secured for too long working a stable job may have blinded him to the fact that stable jobs are more difficult to get the more advanced AI becomes. I hope he has learned his lesson, might be a long time before he can find another stable job

Sadly that's true. Not sure if he will be able to get back into the same IT job as the market has shrunk a lot.
