Alegría, paz, tranquilidad, buena energía, estos son algunos de los simbolismos que le dan a los girasoles; una de mis flores favoritas y tuve la oportunidad de visitar el único campo de girasoles que existe en Venezuela, les cuento en detalle cómo fue esta experiencia.

¨Los quiero todos para mi” era lo que pasaba por mi cabeza cuando me encontré al frente de miles de estas flores, a dónde levantaba la mirada sólo se veía amarillo y verde, las flores alineadas a la perfección buscando los rayos del sol, fue hermoso, mágico y no puedo describirles la energía que se sentía en el lugar.

Desde Barquisimeto, estado Lara son dos horas hasta el municipio Turén del estado Portuguesa donde se encuentran los campos de girasoles, la producción se retomó hace dos años porque estuvo paralizada desde el 2016 porque ya no era rentable para los productores debido a la situación económica del país. En el 2022 se hizo la primera prueba en sólo 60 hectáreas de las 300 que se solían sembrar desde el año 2016 hacia atrás. Debido a su excelente acogida desde el punto de vista turístico (por las flores) y comercial (por el aceite) se continuó con la siembra en el 2023.

El proceso

La siembra se realiza entre octubre y noviembre, luego de unos 50 días florecen durante un mes aproximadamente, por eso es importante programar la visita a estos campos para los primeros días del año, nosotros fuimos el 13 de enero pues para la semana siguiente estaba previsto que comenzaran a marchitarse y luego se iniciara la extracción de las semillas para obtener el aceite comestible que es el principal objetivo de los productores.

¿Cuánto cuesta?

Los campos están a la orilla de la carretera, así que para verlos y entrar a tomar fotos no hay que pagar nada, sin embargo por el auge turístico hay paquetes que incluyen visita guiada, hospedaje en hoteles cercanos (principalmente para quienes quien desean quedarse a ver el atardecer en los campos), sobrevolar la zona en un ultraliviano, entre otras actividades y los precios pueden varias entre $ 50 y $100 , nosotras solo estábamos a dos horas en carretera por eso hicimos el pase low cost y no gastamos nada.

Dato curioso

La temperatura en Turén es de 38 grados centígrados aproximadamente, llegamos a las 4:30 pm y el sol era muy intenso, tanto que no podíamos ver la pantalla del celular y la mayoría de las fotos fueron tomadas a “ciegas”, incluso el teléfono emitió un mensaje que decía “el Iphone necesita enfriarse para poder usarlo”.

Lo que me enamoró

Una de las escenas que más disfrute fue ver a Carlota, mi hija, corriendo entre las flores, buscando la más pequeña para poder abrazarla y cómo se acercaba a ellas para olerlas, que lindo es tener la posibilidad de regalarle a nuestros hijos estos encuentros con la naturaleza, que entienden el amor y cuidado que hay que darle a las plantas. Incluso al final se despidió de ellos y les decía “Bye, bye girasoles”. Gracias Venezuela por tus tierras y tus regalos naturales.

What made me fall in love

One of the scenes I enjoyed the most was seeing Carlota, my daughter, running among the flowers, looking for the smallest one to hug her and how she approached them to smell them, how nice it is to have the possibility to give our children these encounters with nature, that they understand the love and care that must be given to the plants. Even at the end he said goodbye to them and said "Bye, bye sunflowers". Thank you Venezuela for your lands and your natural gifts.
