Introduction

Slums are a big debate at this time. Even if we look at any country, we see how the people live and the way of living they have. These slums are the visibility of urban poverty, and this is the most struggling phase for poor people.

What I see is,
India, with its continuously increasing population and the way people move towards cities for their work, jobs, and living, but don’t get what they expect, is the most prominent reason for this.
According to the last census held in 2011, the results showed that there are 79 million people living in the slums in India, and the number is still increasing in the cities.

To know why this is happening, we have to see different factors like political, social, and economic factors.

Political Factor

Politics is a very prominent reason why development hasn’t reached even after 77 years of independence.
India has a huge number of political parties, and everything depends on them, including the development of the country.

Now, I am going to tell the harsh truth about political leaders—what they do with people to take their votes.
Let’s start with poor people who are below the poverty line (people who cannot afford or get their basic needs including food, clothes, and home). These political leaders (I’m not going to take names) first give people trust that if they come to power, they can solve every problem you are facing. Like—if there are no jobs, they will provide; if you don’t have a house, they will give you one.

But the truth is, they don’t only give trust, they also break it very smoothly. Once you give them your vote and they win, they start showing their real face. Then they do what they want to do with political power, and they start ruling over people. Here the problem of development starts—not happening because of one word: corruption, which they know very well.
Not only politics is a problem, there is also politics in social culture.

Social Factor

Any country can develop only if its people have manners and etiquette to preserve their own living. It is very important, because if the people are not good, it is impossible to say that the country is developed.

I am from India. That doesn’t mean I will say wrong—I love my country, I am proud to be Indian, I always want to be Indian.
But here,
I have seen that many people don’t have basic common sense.

Let me tell you a short story.
I was travelling in the metro last weekend, where I saw a man spit on the floor even though it was clearly written, “Spitting here could be punishable for you.” After reading this, instead of going somewhere else, he still spat there.
When I saw this, I felt so bad. Why do people do these things even though they know this country is their own? If you can’t clean, at least don’t mess it up.

Economic Factor

Migration – One of the prominent reasons that India has to face more slums.
As you may know, agriculture is seasonal work which is based on monsoon, weather, etc.
And these jobs are low-paying, so farmers migrate from rural to urban areas, where they find informal labour work (rickshaw pulling, vegetable shops, daily wage labour). But these jobs are not enough to meet basic needs, so they start living in slums.

Unemployment – Everyone knows that unemployment directly depends on the government, because if the government tries, it can reduce it, but if they stop, it will end up badly.
We know that demand = production, but in this case, India has more demand for jobs and facilities, but still no one is doing anything for the youth.

Conclusion

This is just an article where I tried to tell how the country is.
If I am posting, it is not for publicity but for showing the harsh reality.

India has 1420 million people, which is 10 times the population of the US, and I know it has the potential to become the No. 1 country in the world. But the thing is,People need to change our ideas, mindset, thinking.
If India has to reach its own potential we must fight social responsibility and economic development last and only political leader but we'll change it soon

Is there still anything else people need?
