A Required Investment

in Daily Blog7 months ago (edited)

For years, we have been struggling to get our internet service back. We lost the service from the government-own national company (CANTV) after a famous platform collapse back in 2013. For months, we paid for a service that we were not getting because allegedly that was the only way to guarantee the reinstallation. I gave up after a while and started to look for private services. It wasn't until a few months ago that a new fiber service was announced, but it took them a while to cover the area we live in.

It was going to be expensive (for our living standards), but for my on-line classes a good internet service was a must.

After a long wait, they finally installed all the equipment. We should be paying $35 a month for the service (provided that hyperinflation does not hit us again).

It feels really good to finally have this alien-looking device at home.

Additionally, I needed to upgrade my laptop. It is an old model with barely 3G of RAM memory. Our tech guy suggested 2-4G memory cards, a new processor, and an SSD to make the laptop faster and more reliable. It took me a while to save the money, but I was finally able to buy the parts.

As it is common here with most tech products, there was a compatibility issues with the memory cards, but at the end our tech guy sorted it out. The laptop is working better now and internet is fast enough for online classes.

We still have to deal with an ever-growing power crisis. It is a very serious issue that has not gotten better thanks to the political mess we live in, but hopefully that bomb will not go off yet.

In some parts of the world, people have a hard time understanding the kinds of complications that these basic services can produce in Venezuela. Spending $50-100 on a computer may not be a big deal in some places, but here it implies sacrificying a few months of household expenses. If electricity service does not fail us, we will be able to recover the investment and procure a higher income now that the working tools are up and running.

Thanks for stopping by

$35 a month for internet sound pretty expensive. In the UK, we pay a bit more than that but we can get high speed fibre service at that price. I think we often take good internet service for granted here, and don't have to worry about sudden power outages. Hope it doesn't happen too often for you.

Thanks. Yes, it is expensive. Most people can't afford it. Minimum wage and elders pensions are about $5 a month, so... you can imagine.
Most people make $100 a month at best, so it takes multiple jobs and some "juggling" to do this.

how are you dear friend @hlezama good morning
The situation you describe to us is incredible, dear friend, the service providers go too far, having to pay for a service that they do not provide is acceptable.
It's good that you were able to overcome all the obstacles, and you now have internet service again.
Thank you very much for sharing this experience
Have a happy start to the week

Thanks, @jlufer
Some of the things we have to go through here are certainly bizarre. A simple banking procedure, like updating your personal data on record, for instance, which could even be done from your home (on the bank's website), has taken me years and they still do it wrong (i guess on purpose). We are the land of possibilities when it comes to absurd and impractical things

Hello :) It's good that you were able to access an internet service, the truth is that nowadays it is something that is needed in a basic way. I hope you can work better now. Congratulations and thank you very much for publishing on Daily Blog ❤️.

Thank you, @lauramica
I hope so
You have a great day
