One pot soup // 'Bak Kut Teh' !!!

in Daily Blogyesterday (edited)

For the past few days, my youngest son was still recovering from his coughing, so he was still on soupy food. The rest of us was quite bored with the minced pork soupy meal, so I cooked another soupy meal for husband and eldest son. 'Bak Kut Teh'!

Thank God my husband and my eldest son weren't picky at all, they literally ate whatever I cooked. I needed something easier to cook since I was cooking another lighter minced pork soup for myself and my youngest son.

Bak Kut Teh

Directly translate, 'bak Kut teh' which is a Hokkien slang means meat bone tea, meaning we cooked herbal tea soup with pork bone. I bought a pre-packed Bak Kut Teh which looked like this. This is the brand I love the most!

According to the instructions written on the pack, you just need to prepare clean pork bone, or if you prefer chicken or lamb or beef, is okay also. A handful of garlic cloves, soy sauce and salt.

I had also soften some bean curd skins which we all love so much.

The tea herb spices look like this.

Just add the herbs pack into the pot, together with the bean curd skins and clean pork bones.

Set the pot to boil for 2.5 hours. You may cut down to 2 hours but I love the meat very soft and also more time for the herbs and spices to be incorporated into the soup and meat.

Suddenly I had an idea!

My husband brought back chicharron (deep fried pork belly) which was too hard for me and my sons, and Bak Kut Teh is pork-based, let's throw them in. Yay!!!!

2.5 hours later!

The Bak Kut Teh soup was done! Just scooped the ingredients you want. I took a small bowl of it to try the chicarron. Super delicious, soft and full of fats! Oh yes, I added bean curd puffs too at the end coz my husband super loved it.

My husband and eldest son really enjoyed the Bak Kut Teh with rice, while I also enjoyed a small bowl of it. Didnt want to overheat my body as my body was a bit weak too.

Meanwhile, the light minced pork soup for my youngest son was done cooking too!😬

I transferred half to a smaller pot for that day's usage, another half for the next day. I added a slice of salmon in the soup so that we got some variety — been eating minced pork soup for five days alread.

Bon Appetit!

He didn't get to use the Kool Fever kit when he had fever, now he wanted to try eventhough he didn't have fever anymore. Lol!

Take care, everyone 💖

That soup looks so comforting, I can almost smell the herbs from here

Hello!

This is a very nutritious recipe to combat these illnesses and regain your health with full energy!
I hope your child gets better soon! Sending you lots of love!

I'm ordering some to try!

This is a comforting dish during rainy days and chilly weather. I like the soup with chicharon the pork backfat mixed on it.

As usual, I am fascinated by the foods you prepare, so different than what I prepare. I wonder if I could find some of those ingredients in a specialty shop? I hope you are feeling better soon. It's hard to keep on doing all the mommy chores when one isn't feeling well.

so yummy and a comforting dish😋
