Hey, Hivers! It's makiyumee here and I am back with Part 2 of my Panagtapok 2024 blog series. You guys can read Part 1 here (insert link). So, without further ado, let's get into my Panagtapok 2024 experience.
On the second day of our university week, the morning started with an exciting exhibition game played by our teachers. It was a volleyball match between Team Bangan and Team Mos. At first, I only knew a few teachers who played volleyball, so I didn’t expect much.
But when the game began, I was really surprised to see that almost all of them were skilled players! They played with confidence, moved smoothly across the court, and scored points like they were professionals. It was amazing to watch how they defended their ground and worked as a team. My friends and I, along with the rest of the students, cheered loudly for our teachers. We were all caught up in the excitement and reacted to their impressive moves and strategies.
The teachers seemed to enjoy the game as much as we did, smiling and laughing as they played. It was fun seeing them in a different light, outside the classroom, showing their playful and competitive sides. The match ended after just one set, but it left us all in high spirits. After a short break, another volleyball match followed, which kept the energy going throughout the morning.
When it was time for our university's women's volleyball team to play, we were all excited and cheered loudly for them. I especially cheered for my classmates who were part of the team, and each time they spiked the ball or scored a point, I would shout their names and clap as if there was no more tomorrow. The match was intense and very challenging because the other team had many tall players, while most of our team members were shorter. But even with the height difference, our team was strong and skillful in offense, making some great plays and scoring points.
As the game continued, the energy was high, and we kept cheering louder and louder. The final moments of the match were nerve-wracking, but finally, our team secured the win. We were all overjoyed and celebrated their victory with lots of clapping, cheering, and high-fives. After all the excitement, we decided to have an early lunch together, knowing we still had the basketball match to look forward to in the afternoon. It was a memorable and thrilling morning for everyone.
After lunch, at around 1:30 in the afternoon, the women's basketball match finally started. My friends and I were excited to cheer for our team, especially because our team captain is one of our close friends. We were shouting her name and giving her encouragement as she led the team. We also had other friends on the team, so we made sure to cheer for all of them. Every time they made a good play or scored, we clapped, cheered loudly, and felt so proud of their efforts. The energy in the game was intense, and it made us even more excited to support our team. By the end of the match, our basketball team for the women category won and we will advance to the championships.
During the third day, the first sport in the morning was badminton. My friends and I were early since one of our friends was a player and we cheered for her as she smashed and showed us her amazing skills in playing the sport. In the end, we did not manage to win because the players from the Tourism department were just on a different level, and I could tell that they were more skilled. I am still proud of my friend though. She did her best and we all congratulated her by the end of her match.
In the afternoon, two sports events were happening at the same time—table tennis and e-sports. My friends were competing in both, so we split up to support them. Some of us went to watch the e-sports match, where one of our friends was playing, while the others stayed in the covered court to cheer on our friends in the table tennis competition. It was an exciting time as we moved between the matches, trying to show our support for both groups.
After both games ended, we gathered to hear the results. When we found out that our team secured second place in e-sports, we were all thrilled and proud of their performance. But the excitement didn’t end there. We were even more excited when we learned that our friends won two gold medals in table tennis! We cheered loudly and congratulated them for their hard work and amazing performance. It was a proud moment for all of us as we celebrated their achievements together.
On the fourth day, which was the championship day for both Basketball and Volleyball Men and Women, we all gathered at the Medellin Sports Complex to watch the biggest games of the week. We shouted our chants and cheered loudly for our friends and classmates. During the women's volleyball match, we could see that our team was starting to get tired, and they were struggling a bit, but we kept cheering for them. In the end, our team finished in second place, but we were still proud of them because we knew it wasn’t easy playing against such strong opponents.
The same thing happened with our team during both the Basketball Men and Women's games. Even though our teams didn’t win, we were still very proud of them. They played with all their heart and gave their best effort. They didn’t hold back and had no regrets. It was clear that they worked hard and fought until the end. We cheered for them just as much, knowing that win or lose, they made us proud by doing their best on the court.
By the end of the day, when it was time to announce the overall champions of Panagtapok 2024, we all gathered together at the court, waiting anxiously for the results. As we stood there, excitement filled the air. To our surprise and joy, they announced that our team, the Raging Eagles, won first place as the overall champions!
This made us even happier because it was our second time winning in a row, having also won last year. It was a back-to-back victory, and despite some of our losses during the week, we still managed to come out on top. Everyone was filled with pride and happiness, knowing all our efforts paid off! For a graduating student attending her last university week, this is an amazing memory to cherish.
