From Farm to Table - A Farmer Simple Lunch Story!

in Daily Blog3 days ago

To others this may look simple or ordinary, just a few potatoes but it can bring extraordinary joy to a simple farming family like ours.

Greetings to all Hivers specially here @dailyblog community, I hope we are all doing great today. Another day, another blog and here I am to share a simple glimpse of our daily life as farmers.

We didn’t have anything prepared for lunch today, so I decided to visit my husband’s garden. I remembered he had planted some potatoes that might already be ready for harvest. So I got my baby dressed, carried her on my back, and we went to the garden.

When we arrived, I was right, the potatoes were almost ready to harvest, though some of the leaves were still green. My husband said we should probably wait until the leaves turn yellow before harvesting. I called him over from where he was fixing the sprinkler near his cabbage patch, and he came to help me dig up a few plants. We managed to bring home some potatoes for lunch.

The potatoes were a bit small because they were hit by two strong typhoons , the Nando and Opong, right after my husband finished hilling and maintaining the plants. Since the garden is on slightly higher ground and exposed to strong winds, the potatoes took some damage. but still, we were grateful that there are potato tuber even though it is few. At least they can help cover the cost of seeds, fertilizer, and sprays we used.

We plan to harvest the by the last week of October, just in time before attending our youngest siblings wedding.

When we got home, I cooked the potatoes in two ways , fried and in soup. The kids love fried potatoes, so they ate a lot, while the soup went perfectly with rice. It really feels wonderful to have your own homegrown food, even if your garden isn’t that big. You don’t need a large space when you’re planting mainly for your family’s consumption.

In our case, we grow some for ourselves and sell the rest it's a nice way to have both food and income.

So if you’re thinking about growing vegetables like potatoes, go for it! Comment below if you’d like some planting tips, I’d be happy to help.

Thank you so much for reading my blog. I truly appreciate your time and support.

Always remember - keep smiling and stay positive!

Congratulations by your great garden. Thanks for share.

Thank you so much.

That sounds so wholesome and heartwarming! Nothing beats the joy of cooking and sharing food you’ve grown yourself — truly a taste of love and home.

You're absolutely right. Perks of being a farmer.

It must be very cool having a potato farm. Cooking fries will just be a simple treat. We on the other hand had to endure the pricey potatoes in the market. Even the small sized fries in the fast food chains were so pricey for its quantity.

Yes, perks of being a farmer, we have a free food like those vegetables.
