A Relaxed (unplanned) Study Day

It’s been a while since my last study session

Last Sunday, when I was supposed to be productive by going to a cafe and getting some things done. However, I remembered it was already so hot outside around 10 am, so I really wanted to get to the cafe asap. And to my surprise, traffic near the cafe was PACKED that day. I think there were something on the road, maybe road repair or something, so oncoming traffic that was supposed to be on the other side of the road had to be diverted onto the one I was on. It was quite chaotic, and SO HOT, I literally have to use capslock lol

After about 15 minutes of sunbathing, toasted under the brightest sky, I arrived at the cafe. I ordered a burger and a brown sugar latte, then went straight upstairs. I slowly unpacked my bag.. and guess what? I forgot my tablet :”D <- this is exactly how I looked; I wanted to cry but also wanted to laugh out loud to myself. How can I forgeeettt>< However, it was only for a few seconds, and then the first things I said to myself was “it’s okay, at least you can study now.” I tried to not get too disappointed.

I actually knew that I wanted to spend my sunday studying, that’s why I tried not to get angry (but still, I didn’t expect to leave the house without the tablet in my bag😁). Since I was actually planning to read some research papers and browse topics I’m interested in, I once again wondered how I was going to study. I knew I had my phone with me, but it felt impractical to copy-paste any important information and take notes.

So, I decided to study grammar instead. English isn’t my first language, so I always want to get better at it. Blogging on Hive helps improve my English-writing a lot. Because before this, I only had the courage to write with English in my diary haha. I’ve always been scared to publish my imperfect English-writing. Then after a few months of writing on this platform, I realized there are still so many grammatical structures I hadn't learned or had forgotten. That’s why I started to pick up English as a subject to study again.

That day, I ended up watching a youtube video from a channel named Linguamarina on basic grammar and took a few pages of hand-writing notes. It took me longer than I expected to be honest, whether it was due to lack of focus or something else. But after that, I also wrote my blog post (and yes, wrote it by hand on paper lol). I'm trying to pay more attention to the sentences I write than before, so I can practice what I’ve just learned.

I graduated from college a few years ago, so trying to discipline myself to study again isn’t that easy. But I'm forcing myself to actually turn it into habit and pick it up consistently. I also discovered the “personal curriculum” trend about a month ago, and I find it very interesting. I decided to design my own personal curriculum planner on Canva, print it out, stuck it in my notebook, and really try to update it every week. I'd be happy share my design if anyone is interested haha

Okay, I think that’s it for today’s blog. Looking back on how I spent my Sunday last week just gives me a relaxing feeling and perhaps even appreciates the fact that I forgot my tablet, so that I can dedicate a few hours to focus on studying something I’m meaning to learn. Thanks for reading! Btw, what about you, are you still studying even though you’re not in school anymore? Let’s share :)
