Definitely, not every argument is worth winning... and perhaps it's also worth remembering that a conversation — and maybe even a debate — benefitf from being focused on an exchange of ideas rather than being approached as an exercise that has to have a "winner."

Back in "another life" my therapist shared a piece of wisdom with me that I have carried around ever since: "When someone reacts strongly to something you said, they are often reacting to a memory, not to the present moment." Triggers are everywhere, especially among those who have not spent much time in self-reflection... and so, we might step on one of those emotional landmines.
