Time to abandon Microsoft Windows

With the ending of the support for Windows 10, right now is not only the best time to leave the sinking boat, but also a golden era for the Linux Desktop. I hope with this little nerdy video I can encourage everyone to give it a go. It's not just for us nerds anymore, anyone can be a Linux user, and I mean that lovingly.

I built a new box in 2020 and installed Ubuntu on it. I kept the Windows box around, so I'd have it when I failed to understand how to do stuff on Linux I needed to do.

I've never needed the Windows box once. I am not particularly competent with computers. Marky can attest to my distinct incompetence, in fact. If I can crank up Linux out of the blue with no preparation whatsoever, and experience no failures at all for 5 years, everyone can.

Thanks!

I genuinely do not think I could ever go back to Windows. I've been using MacOS for two years now and while that isn't perfect, it's so much better than the bloat and just awful changes Microsoft has been throwing at Windows.

Yeah, I left Windows behind YEARS ago. Been on Mac since 2011 and more recently using Ubuntu on my mining machines.

I have now been primarily on Linux for a year and two months :) I got in ahead of the "oh no, now windows 10 support is ending, what will I do?" Because I wanted to be able to do anything I did on windows on linux before everyone else was trying to do it.

I still have to dual boot for two, perhaps three reasons:

  1. Adobe Photoshop
  2. Adobe Lightroom
  3. Power BI

I use Windows all day in my new job, and Win11 is so much pain compared to linux.

you gotta quit that job, that is the only reasonable answer dood.

Its the best job I've ever had though. Not really in a position to complain about windows given it is just a vessel to get me to a terminal emulator and a mainframe system. :)

I always keep a Windows install around but use Ubuntu and Debian primarily.

You should try Omarchy for shits and giggles

Interesting interface. I had been on Manjaro for a long time buy the system got hosed and I could never get it right again which made me weary of Arch based stuff. At some point I might give it another try.

The company I work for issues it’s developers with windows machines but we have all installed Linux (Ubuntu) on them, as it’s way better.

The best thing Microsoft ever did was release visual studio code.

visual studio code is great... it has become my go to...

Same here!

Windows for all its flaws has a great patching mechanism for fixing vulnerabilities I am not sure if Linux forces you into fixing vulnerabilities in a laptop as Microsoft does. That is an underrated quality

it forces nothing on you, but... its also not vulnerable at all... you could say viruses don't exist for linux.

Malicious shell scripts do, though :P

a whole different story right there... hahaha h

Left the Windows Matrix years ago--currently on Linux Mate.
