Android users, Update your app!

Hello Frenz… ✨

I’ve been working tirelessly on upgrading my app, and today, after getting some fresh code approved, I pushed an update to the Google Console so my Android Snaperinos can get a little taste of the tune ups.

Before anything else, I want to publicly recognize the people who are constantly giving feedback. Part of the reason @snapie has become what it is today is because of the community behind it. Squashing bugs is a never ending job, but finding them is ten times easier with you, my frenz. You report, you test, you poke things until they break. I fix. That is the dance.

So… what have I done?

🎬 Native Video Player

A brand new native video player for 3Speak videos has been built.

This is a big one.

No more webview. No more funky business. No more hacky JavaScript tricks trying to force something to behave. We now have full control over the player.

And yes… creating a native player opens the door for video scrolling.

Did someone say doom scrolling?

🖼️ Uploading GIFs Now Works

This bug had been reported for a while, and I apologize for it taking longer than expected.

From now on, the app respects the original image format. No more converting everything into JPEG like the previous version was doing.

This issue originally popped up because of the HEIC problems reported on iOS devices. The fix required a smarter approach. Now conversions happen on a case by case basis.

A smart image converter, if you will.

GIFs stay GIFs. As they should.

✍️ Composer Screen Reworked

You’ll notice some slight UI changes on the composer screen, but most of the real work happened under the hood.

Uploading multiple images should now feel smoother and more intuitive. Keeping track of what you’ve uploaded, deleting an image, replacing it, all of that should now be a breeze.

This required a full refactor of the system. It was not a small task. But it paid off.

👤 Profile Screen Improvements

The profile screen was also heavily worked on.

Major refactors. Paying down technical debt. Cleaning house.

These changes helped squash several reported bugs and, more importantly, they lay the foundation for upcoming features.

In the near future, basic wallet functionality will be enabled for users who want it.

🛠️ Other Bug Fixes

There are many smaller fixes. Too many to list without risking putting someone to sleep.

But the work is done in the open. Anyone can visit our repo at @mantequilla-soft and see the hammers hitting the anvil.

So What’s Next?

We have a growing wishlist from the community, and yes, I’m listening. Everything needs to happen in stages, but here’s a roadmap I feel comfortable sharing:

  • Wallet features: Basic transfers, Power Up, Power Down
  • Polls: A feature that honestly feels needed these days
  • Chat: Work has begun, but it still needs proper integration into Snapie Mobile
  • Audio Hangouts: Think Twitter Spaces
  • Video Streaming: Working closely with @threespeak makes this very possible, actually.

Step by step. Brick by brick.

Until Next Time

If you’re on Android, don’t forget to update your @snapie app.

The iOS update is coming soon. No worries. Just a few final tweaks before it hits the store.

As always, I’m grateful for the support, the votes, the reviews, and the love this app receives. I see your comments. I read your feedback.

Much love,
— Snapie 🐝💚

Wow! The work they've put into this app is impressive. So many updates and so much in such a short time is fantastic and gives us a lot to talk about.Honestly, the team behind this great project should be an undeniable example for the other projects that exist right now here on Hive. I've been testing a few different front-end apps besides Hive and Wow, the difference in development is ABYSMAL. It's absolutely insane what you can see in this app and how incredibly advanced it is.

I'm already eager to try out those new and upcoming features. Hangouts (or as I'd like to call them, Snappie Spaces) sounds super interesting. And let's not forget video streaming; we need an app that supports this type of transmission for creators who are used to showing their faces on screen and chatting and talking online.

Great work, really.
