Apple users, time to Upgrade Snapie - Some House Cleaning

in Snapie3 days ago

Hello Frenz

It was brought to my attention that some goblins infiltrated our permanent state of nirvana and stole everyone’s ability to upload new pictures. I’m here to tell you those pesky goblins have been dealt with, and they shall trouble you no more.

On a serious note, we were long overdue for a new release. Work never stopped, but the internal debates about when to release the upgrades definitely didn’t stop either. Anyway, Apple users should now be happy to know they’re running the latest and greatest code—yes, even newer than the Androideans of the world.

So yes, it’s time to update your Snapie app and start sharing pictures with us again.

Some Housekeeping

Many of you have asked about the Google Play release. I promise we haven’t given up on that front. A combination of @meno’s lack of experience and a handful of other pressing issues pushed this to the back burner for a while.

But that doesn’t mean you can’t already download and install Snapie on your Android device. As most of you know, both versions are available on our website:

Videos, When?

This has been our biggest challenge so far. Building—or adapting to—a full video platform is a gargantuan task, but it’s one we’re excited to take on.

Here’s the best analogy I can come up with:

We needed to go to the store… but then we realized the store was 200 miles away. So first, we had to build transportation. But yes—the plan is still to go to the store.

With that in mind, the @threespeak family has been incredible to work with. A special shoutout to our friend @eddiespino, who’s not only spent countless hours brainstorming ideas with me, but has also helped bring many of them to life.

We are so close to having direct video uploads on Snapie that we can almost hit play on our phones already. In just the past few weeks, we’ve managed to:

  • Upgrade 3Speak’s encoding system
  • Redesign fallbacks for outages
  • Build a new HTML5 video player we control
  • Build a Monitoring Gateway that also works as an API support system for 3Speak’s legacy encoding gateway

I won’t bore you with all the technical details. But it’s enough to say: we’re building solid pillars for our beloved blockchain to stand on—and I think we can all be proud of that.

More to Come

A bigger, more detailed announcement will be coming very soon from the @threespeak team. There’s a lot more in the pipeline, so I’ll stop here before I spoil anything else.

That said, my friends, I hope you feel the fire in the belly the same way we do. Yes, prices are crap right now—no denying that. But the things we’re building are genuinely valuable, and there’s no denying that either.

Let’s not sit around waiting for a savior. Let’s keep forging the future we want to see.

Awesome, I noticed that the ios frontend works even smoother post update, i.e. after upvoting it shows the vote value instantly now, great work!

If everyone was like you forging the way to the future then HIVE would be at least 20 bucks right now!

Seems like most of the old guys like to dump and are so used to dumping it would hurt their cold calculating whale hearts to see the price go up, I think that's what's holding it back, but they can't stop the inevitable.

thank you very much Sir!

I was trying to upload my victory against a grandmaster earlier today. I thought the world should see it. I hope the goblins were dealt with severely.

Good work! Welldon!
