TIME AT OUR FINGERTIPS;The impact of technology on time management

Imagine a world where you first have to stand under the sun and check the position of your shadow just to know the time. Hilarious, right? Back then, people woke up at the crow of a cock in the morning and went to bed when the moon fully appeared. I sometimes wonder if we could even cope with such a reality today. What if the cock in my compound crows before the cock in your compound. Time keeping won't be even,it must surely slack at some points.

Then came technology. It invented the clock both digital and analogue that ticks quietly, slowly, but consistently, marking the different phases of the day. Later, wristwatches were introduced, allowing us to carry time with us wherever we go, often without even noticing it. Technology went a step further by placing clocks inside our cell phones, where we can simply press a button to see the time.

With the invention of the clock, one glance is enough to know whether we have fully made use of the day or not. Stopwatches were also created to measure seconds, minutes, and hours, saving us the stress of counting or trying to figure out time manually.

At first, we relied on analogue clocks, but many people found it difficult to distinguish between the minute and second hands. This challenge led to the creation of digital clocks, which clearly display the hour, minute, and second making time reading simple for everyone, even for those who cannot read well.

Despite the fact that the world does not share the same time zone with some parts of the world being one or two hours ahead or behind others this doesn’t bother anyone trying to figure out the time, because we already have a reliable time reader: The Clock.

Timers have also become essential tools beyond just telling time. They are used in measuring temperature, volume, and duration, things that would have been difficult for an ordinary person to calculate. We see them in our cooking pots, gas cookers, and even in our cars. Truly, technology is wonderful, it saves us the stress of guessing, calculating wrongly. For instance, instead of wondering whether the fuel will last five hours, the car’s gauge now shows exactly how much fuel is left.

Even in our ovens, timers are designed to ensure that food doesn’t get overcooked. Once the set temperature or time is reached, the oven automatically stops heating. This innovation allows cooks to relax and prepare meals without fear of burning the food.

Yes,time already existed before us but I strongly agree that technology made time reading easier, smarter, and more accessible for everyone.

Thank you dear readers!!!
