For all one can tell, we are in a technological world. A universe that has gone well into the digital and technological space and we are left with no choice but to join in or remain behind. Of course, almost all have joined in and are swimming in this world of profound technology, with continuous developments and advancements.
It is surprising sometimes when you think of how technology has evolved thus far through time into what we are experiencing in the modern era. We can be certain that there is more to come that could look more surprising. Somehow, the technology of the magnitude of what we have in this modern world has gone on to influence and impact our lives.
Making this post on Hive and having readability from different parts of the world is one of the perks of technology today. Some time back, such things as Web3, blockchain and the like were not a reality. Not saying technology did not exist in those eras. The technology of today has made things easier and opened more opportunities in its advent and progression.
I have heard this statement several times that “What has an advantage also has a disadvantage.” My consideration and stance on the statement remains unsettled though, but for the sake of this post, I reckon with it to state that modern technology has influenced our lives in a negative and destructive sense as well.
Technology shapes and influences us. It continually does. I remember when we would gather around and discuss/gist. In those moments, critical and funny things could be said that would leave a lasting memory. Today, I think the memory we have and hold dear is the ROM (Read Only Memory) or memory card on our devices.
There seems to be a lost connection with one another due to this technology today. We don't really have time or the desire to talk to the person near us. The effect has gone on to make us difficult listeners. For someone who is going through a lot, they could want someone to speak to and have them listen, only that the person(s) they have is(are) busy with someone/something else online.
The productivity of individuals is affected in some way by reason of modern-day technology. There is a lot to explore aimlessly on social media and the Internet and when you dive into these spaces without a level of discipline you become engulfed by it. What should make us smarter seems to do the otherwise; we become screen zombies.
However, can we blame the technology available today? These tools; though some could have been found to have some harmful effects without necessarily looking so (just an opinion), are meant to offer a lot. It boils down to our discipline and how much we use them rather than they use us.
So, technology today is seriously making all efforts to make life easier, and we can attest to that. There is that part from how we humans put it to use that makes life feel empty which should not be so. Someone wrote of how she tried to discipline herself not to touch her phone to observe/connect with her environment while on a short transit but she failed to succeed. Some minutes into the journey, she succumbed.
I have had my own experience some long time back when I tried to disconnect from the technology world and stay with nature and humans. It was worth it. We need such at times, though some of us have this as a workspace. But then, we might need it. Is modern technology making life easier or emptier or both? I guess it does both, depending on our management as humans.
