Things are difficult, and everyone seems to be managing on the little they have. Unemployment is on the increase, challenges come daily, but yet we are required to love. People say love should be unconditional, and our acts of charity shouldn't be done only in abundance. Preachers would go on and on talking about the widow who dropped her last two coins, or the widow in Zarephath who made a meal for Elijah with her last flour. They talk about the blessings of giving and never fail to talk about the church in Macedonia who, in their poverty, first gave themselves before their substance and gave until they were asked to stop bringing in more.
All these are examples of charity in times of need, and this truly shows how poverty isn't the real reason behind lack of giving, but the heart of one who has. Then here is the question: should love be conditional? Following biblical teachings, love shouldn't be conditional. We can see this in First Corinthians 13, where love is defined. Christ's teaching emphasizes sacrificial love, where the welfare of others should be as important as ours. Not because we expect a reward in return, but because the love of humanity lives within us.

Personally, I think love shouldn't be conditional. If we give only when we get, then our love isn't genuine. And if we have to give only when we have enough, we may never have enough to give out. We can share the little we have or lend a helping hand to someone who is less privileged from the little we have—sometimes that's what love truly represents. We should give selflessly, expecting no reward, but as an act of doing good for the sake of humanity. If love is selfless, then our acts of charity should be selfless too.
One of the reasons why people don't give is because of their concern for tomorrow. We assume the worst if we give out our last, but then the Bible encourages believers not to worry about tomorrow, and that's because He has plans ahead of us. Those who hold back from giving sometimes never grow past the level of their fears, but generous givers never suffer lack—there's always provision for them. Just as the righteous always rise after a fall, a giver always has abundance in store, and it happens in a way he can't explain. Our acts of charity should be unconditional, not because Christ said it, but because it's our duty as humans to be our brother's keeper and it's part of our little service for humanity.
