The coming of modern technology has completely changed the way we live, the way we work, and the way we interact and relate with the one another. It has made life more convenient, more comfortable and efficient and it has affected literally every part of our daily life, but at the same time, it has also created new wave of challenges that affect our social and emotional well being of people.
In my view, modern technology makes life both easier and emptier. It gives us the tools we need that make our daily activities ease and simple without stress, but it also takes away some of the simple human values and experiences that make life meaningful.
To begin with, modern technology has made life easier through many different countless ways. From innovation of new things everyday that make life easier. Today, we have machines and digital tools which can handle many of our tasks that once required hours of physical or mental effort. I once saw on the social media few months ago that a car company now have machines that can couple and produce a car with a minute or two but in the past, it can take days or months to produce just a car. In the past, writing letters or sending information to another person far away from you can took days or weeks to get delivered to the person, but today, we have emails, text messaging apps on our phones, which can send instant message to someone across the world in seconds.
Today, we can communicate with anyone across the world in seconds through our social media, video calls, zooms, Google meeting and many more means. Today paying of our bills, shopping, can all be done online without leaving home.
Even the education system, modern technology has made education to become more accessible through online learning platforms, allowing students to study at their own pace and from anywhere in the world. Students can now access thousands of books, journals, and lectures online. I have personally benefited from in this aspect especially during my project works and I must say it wa really helpful. Today, we have different online courses which allow people to learn from the comfort of their homes. Technology has opened the door to knowledge in ways that were not possible before. It has removed many barriers of distance, time, and even cost. It has affected healthcare, transportation and many other aspect of life, like literally every aspect of life.
But then, despite all these benefits that modern technology has brought, it has also made life emptier in some ways. It has make people to become too busy and dependent with digital life and less connected with real life. People have become more attached to their devices than to one another. Many people spend hours scrolling through social media or watching videos, leaving little time for meaningful relationships. Families now sit together but rarely talk because everyone is focused on the screen of their phones or computer. The worse part of all things is that, I've noticed that many people now measure their happiness by the number of likes or followers they have on social media, forgetting the true value of relationships. The social media has caused a lot of problems like the quest by many to gain popularity. It has caused comparison and depression on many people's life's.
Modern technology has made many people to become overdependence. Machines now do most of what people used to do manually. Many people no longer know how to do simple things without using their phones or computers. I asked one of my student 5+7 and he wanted using the calculator to solve. A grown up person in high school not elementary school oh.
In my opinion, I think modern technology is both a blessing and a burden. It has made life easier but yet, it has also made life emptier. Technology is not bad, it is how we use it that matters. If we learn to balance its benefits with real life experiences, that will go a long way not just helping us to maintain genuine relationship but in different aspects of our life.
