My Journey to Overcoming Procrastination as a Nigerian

in Hive Reachout3 months ago

If there is anything that has really influenced my life, I will say it is the Cultural environment of where I grown up as a Nigerian. Growing up as a Nigerian affect my personality both in my negative ways and in a positive ways. Generally, the society that I lived in, it actually deals with you been resilient and hardworking. There is so much pressure from every corner to be successful and this will come with you been demanded to attend to a lot of tasks every day.

Personally, one of the trait that I really wish to change about myself is the fact that I procastinate a lot. In fact over the years, I have discovered that this my personal habit of always procrastinating have deny me a lot of productivity and generally success which I should have recorded in my life. Sometimes I will just look back to my years ago and I wish I have carried out a lot of professional goals if only I have not procrastinated.

Just as many of us know about procastination, it is when you postpone the task that you should do now to later. Most of the time, the act of procrastination leads you to miss out on a whole lot of opportunities and in Nigeria that I live, managing your time is very crucial to your success. The society I lived in requires you to be highly disciplined and so procrastination has been a major hindrance to be disciplined.

Talking much more about the impact of that habit of procrastination in my life, it has really affected me negatively I must confess. There are some opportunities that should have open doors for me most especially in the aspect of finances which because I procastinate it, I was not able to. In fact it also affected my academics many years ago. There are some assignments that I should have submitted and some readings that I should have done academically which should have helped me achieve academic success but because I was procrastinating, I was not able to achieve it.

Personally why I strongly want to have that change is because I can not continue to live that way. It is already having regrets in my life and if I did not start taking steps to change it right now, I will just continue to have more regrets and regret in my life which at the end of the day I will have wish I should have done much more better. If I can conquer procastination, it will help me to be more focused and help me to be more disciplined and even helps to increase my productivity in my life.

I have already started taking steps to overcome the procrastination. I have started putting in place some certain strategies like helping to break any tasks I want to do into much more smaller tasks. When those tasks are broken to smaller tasks, it will help me to achieve it much more faster. Not only that one of the things that I am doing right now is that I always set deadline to every goals I want to achieve. One of the mistake I discovered is the fact that I don't usually set deadline to the goals I want to achieve which should not be so.

And if you should ask me, I have already started seeing some changes. The rate at which I procrastinate like before is already reducing and I am so sure before this year ends, I will have finally conquered that negative habit of procrastination that I am having.

I will like to invite @emreal, @ovey10 and @ernesto6402 to participate in this wonderful initiative.
