Popular statements, proverbs, beliefs, or notions I don't agree with are numerous, but I will be writing about a particular word that affected me negatively and changed my mentality about proverbs and beliefs: "What you don't know will not know you."
I have so much believed in this word, "What you don't know will not know you," for ages, and it has been working for me. I believe that once your hands are clean, you can never encounter evil. On the other hand, there are reasons for every negative thing that happens to you. If armed robbers steal your phone or any of your properties, it actually means you have been involved in such an act. I believe that every negative thing that happened to you was because you or your parents had done such to another person. I so much believe in karma, and I have been avoiding anything that will make me hurt people until that fateful day when the unthinkable and unimaginable happened to me. Wow, it was like a dream that I was waiting for someone to wake me up. My phone was stolen.
I stopped believing in these words, "What you don't know will not know you," the day my phone was stolen. I used to keep my phone carelessly because I believed it couldn't be stolen since I have never thought of stealing anybody's phone. My neighbor has warned me several times, but my response will always be that my phone cannot be stolen. On that fateful day, I was busy attending to customers, unaware that they came for my phone. They dragged me up and down until they succeeded with their plan. They stole my phone and left. It was like a dream because such things had never happened to me. I thought maybe they would bring it back since I never stole anyone's phone.
I waited for days, which turned to weeks and then months, yet I didn't see my phone. My heart melted down. I started examining myself to know if I had stolen someone's things, even by mistake, but couldn't remember such.
This incident made me change my mentality in this world: "What you don't know will not know you," and my advice to everyone is that you should always prepare for the worst even as you hope for the best.
