today I want to continue my journey through the incredible Netherlands. In this post, I will show you the beauty of Dordrecht architecture.

сьогодні хочу продовжити подорож неймовірними Нідерландами. У цьому пості я покажу вам красу архітектури Дордрехта.
In general, during the time I was in the Netherlands, I visited such cities as Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam and Dordrecht. Each of them made a huge impression and remained in my heart forever. But Dordrecht somehow became my favorite city in Holland. Therefore, today's post will be full of love for this city.
Загалом, за той час, що я була в Нідерландах, я відвідала такі міста як Амстердам, Гаага, Роттердам та Дордрехт. Кожне із них справило величезне враження та лишилося в серці назавжди. Та Дордрехт якимсь чином став моїм улюбленим містом в Голландії. Тому, сьогоднішній допис буде сповнений любові до цього міста.
To understand what this city is, you can imagine a Disney cartoon about a princess living in a beautiful kingdom. Or you can present a fantasy film with cool visuals. These are the thoughts that crossed my mind when I first arrived in Dordrecht.
Щоб зрозуміти, що собою представляє це місто, можна уявити діснеївський мультик про якусь принцесу, що живе у прекрасному королівстві. Ну або ж можна представити фентезійних фільм із крутим візуалом. Саме такі думки пронеслися в моїй голові, коли я вперше приїхала в Дордрехт.
The whole city is like a fairy tale! It exudes antiquity and history, in the good sense of the word. Every centimeter here exudes the zeitgeist and authenticity. 90% of all buildings in the city are old, although I would even say ancient. So you just walk, you see a house on which it is written that it was built in the middle of the 18th century, and next to it is a similar house of the 16th century... And the most incredible thing is that people live in these houses! For our country, this sounds a little strange, because when a building is more than 100 years old, it means that it is classified as a historical monument. Accordingly, it is not desirable to live there. But in the Netherlands, every second house is, in fact, a historical monument.
Усе місто неначе казкове! Від нього віє старовиною та історією, у хорошому сенсі цього слова. Кожен сантиметр тут віддає духом часу та автенчністю. 90% усіх будівель міста старі, хоча я б навіть сказала старовинні. Отак просто йдеш, бачиш дім, на якому написано, що він побудований у середині 18 століття, а поруч схожий будиночок 16 століття...А найнеймовірніше те, що у цих будинках живуть люди! Для нашої країни це звучить трішки дивно, адже коли будівлі більше 100 років, значить її його відносять до історичної пам'ятки. Відповідно, там жити не бажано. Але в Нідерландах кожен другий дім - це, по-суті, історична пам'ятка.
And what I love most is the fact that they live in the midst of history. It is part of their everyday life. For me, as a culturologist, this plays a big role, because when the features of national culture and history have a city in everyday life, it means that citizens are very conscious.
Returning to the topic, I cannot but say about this ivy that wraps around the wall of the house. I personally love the ivy theme, it looks very aesthetic and cool. Therefore, when I see it, I immediately take a picture.
І мені найбільше подобається той факт, що вони живуть серед історії. Вона є частиною їх повсякдення. Для мене, як культуролога, це грає велику роль, адже коли особливості національної культури та історії мають місто в повсякденному життя, значить громадяни дуже свідомі.
Повертаючись до теми, не можу не сказати, про цей плющ, що обвиває стіну будинку. Особисто я обожнюю тему з плющами, це виглядає дуже естетично та класно. Тому, коли бачу це, одразу ж фотографую.
As you may have already noticed, there are cobblestones or tiles lying on the streets of Dordrecht, and in dark colors, like in this photo. There is nothing there that stands out from the overall picture. And in general, the stone masonry fits well with the buildings, filled in brown tones. This combination adds a special charm to the streets of beautiful Dordrecht.
Як ви уже могли помітити, на вулицях Дордрехту лежить кам'янка або ж плитка, при чому в темних тонах, ось як на цьому фото. Немає там такого, щоб щось вибивалося із загальної картини. Та і взагалі, кам'яна кладка неабияк пасує будівлям, виповненим у коричневих тонах. Це поєднання додає особливого шарму вулицям прекрасного Дордрехта.
Well, where can we go without bicycles? This type of transport has already become not only a part of the lives of citizens of the Netherlands, but also a part of street design. Wherever you look, there are parking lots for bicycles, paths for them and, of course, cyclists themselves.
Ну і куди ж без велосипедів. Цей вид транспорту уже став не тільки частиною життя громадян Нідерландів, а й частиною дизайну вулиць. Куди не поглянеш - кругом є стоянки для велосипедів, доріжки для них і, звісно, самі велосипедисти.
And this is Dordrecht Town Hall. We were told that this administrative building has been standing here for almost 800 years. It is clear that it has already been reconstructed, but still... And the clock you see above dates back to the middle of the 16th century. And they still work! And what we couldn't help but notice is the Ukrainian flag💙💛 We are very pleased to see our native symbols 2500 km from home. This support really means a lot to every Ukrainian.
А це Ратуша Дордрехту. Нам сказали, що ця адміністративна будівля стоїть тут уже майже 800 років. Зрозуміло, що вона вже реконтруйована, та все ж....А годинник який ви бачите зверху датується серединою 16 століття. І вони досі працюють! І те, що ми не могли не помітити - це український прапір💙💛 Нам дуже приємно бачити рідну символіку за 2500 км від дому. Ця підтримка дійсно дуже багато значить для кожного українця.
And one more point about this town hall: it is tilted from right to left. In previous posts about the Netherlands, I already said that it is not surprising here, but on the contrary, such nuances have already become a feature of the architecture of this country.
І ще один момент стосовно цієї ратуші: вона похилена справа на ліво. У попередніх постах про Нідерланди я вже розповідала, що тут це не дивно, а навпаки такі нюанси вже стали особливістю архітектури цієї країни.
Well, where can we go without channels! As in Amsterdam, here they are at every step. I've said it a thousand times, but I'll say it again: I love channels!
Ну і куди ж без каналів! Як і в Амстердамі, тут вони на кожному кроці. Я вже говорила це тисячі разів, але повторюса: я обожнюю канали!

This is the first time I've encountered the term "culturologist". Would you mind elaborating what you do exactly and how relevant is this profession to architecture @anastasialin?

Culturology is essentially the same as Culture Studies. We study the connections between culture and society, politics and how it shapes the society in which we live.
Architecture, which is an integral part of art and culture as a whole, also falls under the study of a culturologist. But I'm still in the 3rd year of study, so, unfortunately, we didn't talk much about the architecture itself. I hope there will be more conversations on this topic in the future
Cool, that's quite an interesting field of study! 👍 It's always fascinating to witness the fusion of various disciplines into one scientific endeavor. And I believe our world's various cultures will never be complete without architecture. Who knows? Perhaps you could possibly be the chosen specialist in your class who will lead the valuable conversations about the built environment? haha. 😁
