St. Barbara's Cathedral

Hello everybody! Visiting holy places one cannot but pay attention to architecture and history. Historical architecture is atmospheric places. Orthodox or Catholic cathedrals have collected a piece of church history. But church architecture has always been the pride of the country's architectural history. I visited one of the Orthodox shrines - St. Barbara's Cathedral.

This church is of historical value. The fact is that St. Barbara's Cathedral is a monument of Baroque architecture and temple building of the history of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.

The Grand Duchy of Lithuania traversed for about five centuries. This state occupied a huge territory and had influence over half of the continent. However, everything has a beginning and everything has an end. But the legacy of ancient times remained on the territories of modern countries. The Belarusian St. Barbara Cathedral is one of the architectural heritage of the Lithuanian principality.

The building of the storage was rebuilt for money. This place is of great importance in the historical and religious significance of the region of the country. There are many religious and Orthodox residents in Belarus. Such Orthodox architectural shrines are of great importance.

The church is named after the great martyr Barbara. Her name and the name of the church may be familiar to you from the name of Santa Barbara. However, in this case, the Church is very popular and highly attended. In dockyard times, people partly attended the Barbarian Church.

The church building is replete with various church signs. However, at first glance, St. Barbara's Cathedral looks modest. This was probably the idea of the creators, since Orthodox churches most often look modest.

There is a gate in front of the entrance to the temple. But not ordinary, but concrete.

As I wrote earlier, the Temple is named after Varvara Iliopolskaya. Surprisingly, she is in Raphael's painting of the Sistine Madonna. In addition, Varvara is depicted on the coat of arms of some cities in Poland, Germany and Russia.

The temple is not replete with towers, it is a one-nave reckless temple. In addition, there are important church relics in the building, but ordinary enthusiasts like me are not allowed to approach them. The building of the temple was built in the 17th century, or rather in 1786.

During its history, the temple has undergone repeated restructuring. In addition, during the Second World War, St. Barbara's Cathedral was destroyed by bombing. In Soviet times, religion had no value, but after the fall of the conscientious regime, religious saints began to rebuild.

Unfortunately, St. Barbara's Cathedral has undergone architectural changes. Some elements have been changed. Windows and interior decoration have also been changed.

photo5219911816732325835.jpg

While Poland continued to rule over the territories of modern Belarus, the temple continued its Orthodox existence. At the moment, the Church of St. Barbara is mentioned as an Orthodox relic of Belarus. This place is visited by pilgrims from Belarus and other CIS countries.

There is information in the literary summaries, which mentioned that some external icons had to be "whitewashed" with whitewash. That is, to close up the wall with whitewash. The fact is that historically the building was attacked by the Nazis and religious aggressors. However, the Temple withstood ...

Today, St. Barbara's Cathedral is a historical value of the Republic of Belarus. Moreover, this building is a monument of Baroque architecture. Despite the fact that the church building was repeatedly rebuilt and survived two world wars, it retained its original appearance and significance.

Any historical building is worth a visit. But cultural and religious architecture attracts the most attention. Religious historic architecture is a "church time capsule" that takes us back to ancient times when religion was of global importance. Every religious site has a historical significance.

Interesting photos of this architectural building. Very good angles and shots that allow us to appreciate the good structure. Churches usually keep all those archives of some parish or village. It is exciting to see history through those walls. Greetings! @danny.green
