Greetings Dear Friends of @Architecture+Design 🤗. This will be my first post in this community and I hope it will be to your liking.
El Estado Nueva Esparta además de poseer bellezas naturales y exóticas playas cuenta con sitios históricos como Monumentos o Castillos en los cuales se esconde parte de nuestra historia de independencia. En esta ocasión quiero hablarles del castillo San Carlos de Borromeo ubicado en la ciudad de pampatar, Municipio Maneiro del Estado nueva Esparta.
The State of Nueva Esparta, besides having natural beauties and exotic beaches, has historical sites such as monuments or castles in which part of our history of independence is hidden. On this occasion I want to talk about the San Carlos de Borromeo Castle located in the city of Pampatar, Municipality Maneiro of the State of Nueva Esparta.
Fue construido en el siglo XVII como una fortaleza que buscaba defender a los habitantes del estado de los piratas que buscaban adueñarse de nuestras tierras. Y hoy en día representa uno de los sitios históricos más visitados por los turistas ya que a pesar de los años aún mantiene su estilo arquitectónico colonial.
It was built in the seventeenth century as a fortress that sought to defend the inhabitants of the state from pirates who sought to take over our lands. And today it represents one of the most visited historical sites by tourists because despite the years it still maintains its colonial architectural style.
A primera vista nos encontramos con una arquitectura que impresiona por sus gruesos muros, en la entrada debemos pasar un pequeño puente elevadizo para acceder a esta gran fortaleza, ya que el castillo se encuentra construido sobre una colina a la orilla de la Bahia de Pampatar y está rodeado de una fosa cuya intención era servir de resguardo para los corsarios que intentarán invadir el lugar.
At first sight we find an architecture that impresses with its thick walls, at the entrance we must pass a small elevated bridge to access this great fortress, as the castle is built on a hill on the shore of the Bay of Pampatar and is surrounded by a pit whose intention was to serve as a shelter for the corsairs who try to invade the place.
Una vez dentro del Castillo nos encontramos con un área abierta donde podemos observar varios cuartos, un calabozos y una pequeña capilla. Estos cubículos están llenos de historias, pinturas, armas y artefactos de la época. En el centro también encontramos un pozo profundo y un par de cañones.
Once inside the castle we find an open area where we can observe several rooms, a dungeon and a small chapel. These cubicles are full of stories, paintings, weapons and artifacts of the time. In the center we also find a deep well and a pair of cannons.
A la derecha podemos ver una especie de rampa que nos da acceso a la cima del castillo desde donde se tiene una vista espectacular hacia la bahía de Pampatar. Nos impresiona también las torres situadas en las esquinas del Castillo cuyas características sorprende por su estructura arquitectónica.
To the right we can see a kind of ramp that gives us access to the top of the castle from where we have a spectacular view of the bay of Pampatar. We are also impressed by the towers located in the corners of the castle whose characteristics are surprising for their architectural structure.
Desde la cima se observan a la perfección los cañones que fueron usados muchas veces para defender a la Isla, ya que están situados estratégicamente para evitar el acceso de piratas desde esta bahía. Y adicionalmente también se puede observar la parte inferior del castillo debido a su estilo abierto.
From the top you can perfectly observe the cannons that were used many times to defend the island, since they are strategically located to avoid the access of pirates from this bay. And additionally you can also observe the lower part of the castle due to its open style.
Este sitio histórico es un destino fascinante tanto para los turistas como para los pobladores de la Isla puesto que aparte de maravillarse con su estructura arquitectónica e historia, también se deleitan con maravillosos paisajes ideales que invitan a relajación y la reflexión.
This historic site is a fascinating destination for both tourists and locals alike, since apart from marveling at its architectural structure and history, they are also delighted with wonderful landscapes that are ideal for relaxation and reflection.
Según la historia este castillo ha sido usado con múltiples propósitos a lo largo de los años. En 1945 estuvo bajo la responsabilidad de la Infantería Marina y en 1950 fue tomado por la Guardia Nacional. Finalmente su declaración como Monumento Histórico Nacional llegó en el año de 1965 Y actualmente se encuentra bajo la responsabilidad de la Corporación Nacional de Turismo del Estado Nueva España.
According to history this castle has been used for multiple purposes over the years. In 1945 it was under the responsibility of the Marine Infantry and in 1950 it was taken over by the National Guard. It was finally declared a National Historic Monument in 1965 and is currently under the responsibility of the National Tourism Corporation of the State of New Spain.
Hoy en día se encuentra abierto a los turistas quienes diariamente tienen acceso a todo el patrimonio histórico que este Castillo ofrece. Adicionalmente también se realizan obras de teatro donde se recrea parte de la historia para el deleite de los turistas y de los pobladores que acuden al lugar.
Today it is open to tourists who have daily access to all the historical heritage that this castle offers. In addition, there are also plays where part of the history is recreated for the delight of tourists and locals who come to the place.
En mi visita a este histórico Castillo les puedo contar que a pesar de ser margariteña y de haberlo visitado en varias ocasiones nunca me canso de admirar toda la belleza arquitectónica y la historia detrás de cada uno de las exhibiciones que encontramos en este lugar. Por ese motivo este patrimonio cultural debe ser una visita obligada para todos Los visitantes que deseen conocer un poco más de nuestra historia y maravillarse con una estructura colonial que ha perdurado a través del tiempo.
In my visit to this historic castle I can tell you that despite being from Margarita and having visited it on several occasions I never tire of admiring all the architectural beauty and history behind each of the exhibits found in this place. For this reason this cultural heritage should be a must for all visitors who wish to know a little more of our history and marvel at a colonial structure that has endured through time.

Yo no tengo idea de las veces que he ido, sinceramente perdí la cuenta, y no me canso de ir, es un lugar imponente, lleno de historia, con una vista brutal de la bahía de Pampatar.

Wow the history is beautiful! I am still really amazed as to how all of our ancestors built these huge forts and structures without help of modern equipment.

Hi @eumelysm, welcome to the community, the castle San Carlos de Borromeo is part of the various fortresses that the Spanish built in the country, is a great architectural work that is preserved in time, I love its location and the spectacular view of the sea.
