Greetings to everyone 🌻
How's life going?
I hope wherever you are, you all are doing well 🙂
In this blog, I will tell you all about Kathkuni style house. The Kathkuni word is originated from 2 Sanskrit words : kastha meaning wood and Kone meaning corner. These type of houses can be found in the Himalayan villages.
Traditional himachali houses are made with timber wood , stones , mud and roofed with slates. The architecture of these traditional houses has always made the use of locally available material. This is a beautiful house of my relatives which I have captured, standing alone at the top of mountains.
In traditional houses , they have a single passage to move around to different rooms. The village area is home to some of the fast vanishing indigenous wooden architecture of Himachal Pradesh , especially the Kath kuni style home.
He is our relative and owner of this house. The maximum work of this house is done by wood. These types of houses are warm in cold weather and cool in hot weather. This type of architecture helped the building survived many earthquake.
Living in Kath kuni style houses is such a privilege. It is peaceful to mind and keep us grounded. The modern style houses is taking place of Kath kuni style houses because of less availability of woods which is really sad. I am really grateful that I have this platform where I can share about my place, people and cultures. That's it for today's blog 🙃
I hope you do find this blog informative and interesting.

It is a very curious and striking architectural structure, I would have liked to see photos of the interior as well, it would have been fascinating. Thank you for teaching us about this building and its cultural significance.
