Hello friends of Arquitectura + Diseño. I'm going to show you a special place I discovered in Vedado, on 17th street, corner J. The Longina Bar, a place that combines the essence of Cuban Trova with a very attractive design. I had the opportunity to visit it last week during a farewell toast organized by my coworkers. I made a job change after more than 20 years, it was a very emotional moment for me. I wanted to share this place with you because its design is really seductive, like the name of the place.
Hola amigos de Arquitectura + Diseño. Les voy a mostrar un lugar especial que descubrí en el Vedado, en la calle 17, esquina J. El Bar Longina , un lugar que combina la ecencia de la Trova cubana con un diseño cuativador. Tuve la oportunidad de visitarlo la semana pasada durante un brindis de despedida organizado por mis compañeros de trabajo. Realicé un cambio de trabajo después de más de 20 años, fue un momento muy emotivo para mí. Quería compartir este lugar con ustedes porque su diseño es realmente seductor, como el nombre del lugar.
Upon entering, you are greeted by imitation wicker furniture in the lobby. On the counter where you buy tickets, there is the name of the bar and underneath there are ten paintings of Longina, the inspiring muse of the beautiful song written by troubadour Manuel Corona, which gives the place its name.
Al entrar, te reciben unos muebles de imitación a mimbre en el vestíbulo. En el mostrador donde se compran las entradas, figura el nombre del bar y debajo hay diez cuadros de Longina, la musa inspiradora de la hermosa canción escrita por el trovador Manuel Corona, que da nombre al lugar.
The story behind this song is interesting, contrary to what many think, it is not the result of a romance or unrequited love. Longina was a mulatto woman who died in 1968 and accompanied an officer of the liberating army. This officer asked the troubadour to write a song in her name, and they never imagined that it would reach such fame, being immortalized and interpreted by different troubadours throughout several decades.
La historia detrás de esta canción es interesante, contrariamente a lo que muchos piensan, no es el resultado de un romance o de un amor no correspondido. Longina era una mulata que murió en 1968 y acompañaba a un oficial del ejército libertador. Este oficial pidió al trovador que escribiera una canción en su nombre, y nunca imaginaron que alcanzaría tanta fama, siendo inmortalizada e interpretada por diferentes trovadores a lo largo de varias décadas.
The bar is on the second floor and to reach it you have to go up a beautiful wooden staircase painted black with a red carpet. Climbing these stairs is quite an event. On the right wall, as we ascend, there is a series of paintings with the faces of great troubadours of our country, both of the Trova Tradicional and the Nueva Trova, outstanding representatives of this musical genre.
El bar queda en la segunda planta y para asceder a él hay que subir por una hermosa escalera de madera pintada de negro con alfombra roja. Subir estas escaleras es todo un acontecimiento. En la pared derecha, a medida que ascendemos, hay una serie de cuadros con los rostros de grandes trovadores de nuestro país, tanto de la Trova Tradicional como de la Nueva Trova, destacados representantes de este género musical.
On the central wall, from the second floor upwards, there is a huge, narrow but elongated stained glass window, with very bright colors.
En la pared central, desde el primer piso hacia arriba, hay una enorme vidriera estrecha pero alargada, con colores muy vivos.
On the wall initially on the left, there is a lacquered painting with fragments of different sizes of beautiful songs written and sung by great troubadours. In the center of the carpeted staircase, there is a large antique teardrop lamp. It is curious to see these antique objects in a modern building. If we look at the ceiling, we find a nice molding, similar to that of old houses.
En la pared que queda inicialmente a la izquierda, hay un cuadro lacado con fragmentos de diferentes tamaños de hermosas canciones escritas y cantadas por grandes trovadores. En el centro de la escalera alfombrada, hay una gran lámpara antigua de lágrimas. Es curioso ver estos objetos antiguos en un edificio moderno. Si nos fijamos en el techo, encontramos una bonita moldura, similar a la de las casas antiguas.
The main hall is in black and white, with hanging lamps that illuminate with white bulbs. It is an area that offers night service and on the walls there are pictures with nice paintings of Longina in different poses or activities. The chairs and tables are made of black painted wood, and it has a beautiful white marble bar with large black shelves.
El salón principal es en blanco y negro, con lámparas colgantes que iluminan con bombillas blancas. Es una zona que ofrece servicio nocturno y en las paredes hay cuadros con bonitas pinturas de Longina en diferentes poses o actividades. Las sillas y mesas son de madera pintada de negro, y tiene una preciosa barra de mármol blanco con grandes estanterías negras.
There is a large smoking room, where a painting of Longina with a cigar between her fingers caught my attention. This area has high black banquettes.
Existe una gran sala de fumadores, donde me llamó la atención un cuadro de Longina con un puro entre los dedos. Esta zona tiene banquetas negras altas.
It was a lovely evening, the place was ours. I liked it very much, in the background we listened to the beautiful music of different Cuban troubadours, which has a nice melody and at the same time makes us reflect.
Fue una velada encantadora, el lugar era nuestro. Me gustó mucho, de fondo escuchamos la hermosa música de diferentes trovadores cubanos, que tiene una bonita melodía y a la vez nos hace reflexionar.
