Last Saturday, April 17, as I mentioned in another post, and taking advantage of the week of flexibility I decided to go for a walk with my wife and son @manuelmilano. We went for a walk through the historic center of Caracas and elsewhere. Unfortunately many places were closed so we couldn't take pictures inside. However, they are beautiful places that my wife and I have visited before but we wanted our son to live the experience of enjoying observing and playing the art that adorns the designs of each of those model structures of Architecture and Engineering yesterday and today.

The marble plate placed on the side (left side) of the Holy Chapel says verbatim the following, quote: "On this site was celebrated the first mass that was said in Caracas on the occasion of the conquest. Among Diego de Lozada's companions were two priests: Blas de la Fuente and Fray Baltasar García. His Holiness Pius XI dated 05 August 1926 granted the Holy Chapel the title of Basilica Minor and one of the reasons he argued for this title was to have celebrated in this place the first Mass according to tradition. Praise be to Jesus Christ! end of the appointment. Photography Copyright @marcosmilano71. Caracas, Saturday, April 17, 2021.

On this site, before they built the new church of Santa Capilla, there was the old hermitage of San Sebastian that had been erected in 1568 and then dedicated to St. Mauritius in 1640. In 1641 it was destroyed by an earthquake. In 1667 the church was re-erected but cheaper materials such as wood, bricks and mortar mixture were used (Mixture of various materials, such as lime or cement, sand and water.) On March 26, 1812, another earthquake with an epicenter in Caracas almost completely destroyed the Temple. Then they tried to rebuild it, began the work of its reconstruction but never completed it. In 1883, the then President Antonio Guzmán Blanco ordered its construction to the architect Juan Hurtado Manrique, Guzmán Blanco raised it as a replica of the Sainte Chapelle in Paris.

On July 29, 1967, at 8:05 p.m., a new 6.7 earthquake on the Richter scale, lasting approximately 40 seconds, hit the country's capital and the Basilica Minor, Santa Capilla, was again affected. After the remodeling and repair, which was almost exactly the original, it was possible to observe the reinstallation of column heads, Gothic masonry ornaments and head of angels adorning the central tower and the two smaller side towers. It was recently renovated and repainted by the Government of Venezuela.

Currently the Lesser Básilica of Santa Capilla consists of a plant of three naves, separated by rows of columns on ojival arches. The presbytery is located at the bottom of the central nave, and the choir is located above the main entrance and under the central tower.
Its facades feature elements of neo-Gothic characteristics. The main cover shows three sections defined from the naves, each with access hens in ojival arches, whose center is of greater dimension and highlighted by a central tower with needle finish.

On July 29, 1967, at 8:05 p.m., a new 6.7 earthquake on the Richter scale, lasting approximately 40 seconds, hit the country's capital and the Basilica Minor, Santa Capilla, was again affected.

Hello, friend @marcosmilano71! The Basilica Minor Santa Capilla de Caracas is a remarkable work of architecture with its pinkish-orange walls that are quite interesting to look at.

Do earthquakes happen often in your country? What preventive and restorative measures have your government done to address these critical issues?

Good afternoon from Venezuela. Hello friend Erne. @storiesoferne. Answering your questions I must tell you that we are not a territory of earthquakes. Throughout our history, several telluric events of great magnitude have occurred; fortunately they are not that frequent. According to the Venezuelan Foundation for Seismological Research (FUNVINSIS) the geological faults in Venezuela are: *** Boconó (Los Andes), San Sebastián (Cordillera de la Costa) and El Pilar (Serranía del Interior). In the case of Venezuela, almost all the destructive earthquakes have been of superficial origin, examples are that of Cariaco (July 9, 1997) and Caracas (July 29, 1967). ***

Buenas tardes desde Venezuela. Hola amigo Erne. @storiesoferne.

In relation to prevention in the event of a major event, I must confess that attempts have been made to educate the population, but in all fairness here very few people are prepared for an earthquake. This issue has, here in Venezuela, a lot of fabric to cut. There are many analyzes and comments that we could make in this regard, but I will leave it for another time, I will only tell you that we have a long way to go to have a preventive culture in this matter ... and in many matters. To tell you that the Civil Protection Organizations and Firefighters work with their nails. Friend, I better not continue because it makes me very sad to talk about these things. Receive a strong hug full of light and many positive energies. Blessings for you and yours.

Hello @marcosmilano71, it's amazing how this beautiful Holy Chapel has gone through three major earthquakes. The re-build and rehabilitation show a lot of detailed work and resilience as it recovered from damage and destruction. It's nice to take walks with family and allowing your son to admire and appreciate such beautiful architecture.

Hello friend @discoveringarni Good evening. Thanks for your comment. Yes, it is true, going for a walk with the family is the best. And in terms of earthquakes, Venezuela is a privileged country since there have been few of great magnitude; however, those who have shaken this territory have left serious consequences. Greetings and endless blessings.

Hola amiga @discoveringarni Buenas noches. Saludos e in finitas bendiciones.
