Hi hi hi, I wish I was posting and contributing to this community a lot more often, but my life has been crazy and I'm not able to. Today I bring you a new project I made to recover a broken chair.
But calm down, it's not just any chair. Besides being a chair full of memories and that came to me in a very unusual way, it is an original Cimo chair. And that's not just anything, my friends.
Móveis Cimo S/A. was a furniture factory that started its activities in 1913, in the municipality of Rio Negrinho, Santa Catarina, Brazil, and went bankrupt in 1982, when its headquarters were located in Curitiba, Paraná. Its founders were Willy Jung and Jorge Zipperer.
Nowadays, you can find some intact Cimo furniture in antique stores or second-hand furniture stores and they cost real fortunes. They have become a much sought-after vintage item here in my country. In addition, they were produced with very high quality wood and a very innovative design for the time.
Well, as this chair that came to me was not in such a good condition, I decided to make a reform to try to recover it.
My initial idea was to rebuild the broken points, especially the backrest. So I prepared a homemade mixture of sawdust and glue and made a kind of dough to shape the broken part of the chair.
At first, everything seemed to go well, although some people warned me on my social networks that it wouldn't work, because there was no support for the mass. (At this point, if you are an architect, you may be laughing at my naivety to think that this would work) 🤣
After making the structure with the sawdust and filling the holes in the seat (this part turned out really well!), I covered it with plastic putty, a kind of modeling putty. This putty hardens a lot when it dries and I was hoping it would help to firm up the putty underneath, as I used this material also to cover the part where the wood and sawdust came into contact.
But, well, as you can see below, my attempt did not work. The sawdust did not harden completely and cracks appeared. The edge of the chair became pliable and looked like it was made of rubber. It certainly wasn't going to last long.
So I decided to go for a plan B. And my idea was to adopt a fun solution to accept the imperfection and history of the chair, but still matching it to my decor, which is usually very dopaminergic and irreverent.
I used the same mass of sawdust and glue to make teeth marks on the broken corner, to try to simulate a bite mark on the chair. And then I started thinking about foods I could put there to make the result really fun. Soon the idea of a cookie came to me. I chose to reproduce the "Maria" cookie, which is quite popular here in Brazil and everyone can identify.
But before painting the cookie, I painted the whole chair pink with special wood paint.
The next steps were the drawing of the bitten cookie and the details. I think I managed to create a certain depth in the furniture, to really give the feeling that it had been bitten. I finished with brown paint to paint the details and then covered the design with shellac to protect it.
I already had all the paints and materials at home, so this was a very sustainable project. Now, this original Cimo chair will live with me for a long time.
I'm proud of this transformation, which has been quite challenging, and excited for the upcoming projects. I hope you like it!

Criando uma cadeira biscoito
Oi oi oi, eu gostaria de estar postando e contribuindo com essa comunidade com muito mais frequência, mas minha vida tem estado louca e não estou conseguindo. Hoje trago um projeto novo que fiz para recuperar uma cadeira quebrada.
Mas calma, não é qualquer cadeira. Além de ser uma cadeira cheia de memórias e que chegou até mim de um jeito bastante inusitado, ela é uma cadeira Cimo original. E isso, não é qualquer coisa, meus amigos.
A Móveis Cimo S/A. foi uma fábrica de móveis que iniciou suas atividades no ano de 1913, no município de Rio Negrinho, Santa Catarina, no Brasil, e faliu em 1982, quando sua matriz estava localizada em Curitiba, Paraná. Seus fundadores foram Willy Jung e Jorge Zipperer.
Atualmente, é possível encontrar alguns móveis Cimo intactos em antiquários ou lojas de móveis de segunda mão e elas custam verdadeiras fortunas. Se tornaram um artigo vintage muito requisitado aqui no meu país. Além disso, elas eram produzidas com madeira de muita qualidade um design bastante inovador para a época.
Bom, como essa cadeira que chegou até mim não estava em tão bom estado assim, eu resolvi fazer uma reforma para tentar recuperá-la.
Minha ideia inicial era reconstruir os pontos quebrados, sobretudo esse do encosto. Então eu preparei uma mistura caseira de granulado de serragem e cola e fiz uma espécie de massa para moldar a parte quebrada da cadeira.
No começo, tudo parecia ir bem, apesar de algumas pessoas me alertarem em minhas redes sociais de que não ia dar certo, porque não havia nenhuma sustentação para a massa. (Neste momento, se você é um arquiteto possivelmente deve estar rindo da minha ingenuidade de achar que isso ia dar certo). 🤣
Depois de fazer a estrutura com a massa de serragem e preencher os buracos do assento (essa parte ficou muito boa!), eu cobri com massa plástica, uma espécie de massa para modelar. Essa massa endurece muito quando seca e eu tinha esperança que ela ajudasse a firmar a massa debaixo, já que eu usei esse material também para cobrir a parte onde a madeira e a serragem entravam em contato.
Mas, bem, como vocês podem ver a seguir, a minha tentativa não deu certo. A massa de serragem não endureceu completamente e ainda apareceram rachaduras. A quina da cadeira ficou maleável e parecia que era feita de borracha. Com certeza não ia durar muito tempo.
Então eu resolvi partir para um plano B. E a minha ideia foi adotar uma solução divertida para aceitar a imperfeição e a história da cadeira, mas deixá-la com a cara da minha decoração, que costuma ser bem dopaminérgica e irreverente.
Eu usei a mesma massa de serragem e cola para fazer marcas de dentes no canto quebrado, para tentar simular uma marca de mordida na cadeira. E então comecei a pensar em alimentos que eu poderia colocar ali para deixar o resultado bem divertido. Logo me veio a ideia de um biscoito. Escolhi reproduzir o biscoito "Maria", que é bastante popular aqui no Brasil e todas as pessoas conseguem identificar.
Mas antes de pintar o biscoito, eu pintei toda a cadeira de rosa com tinta especial para madeira.
As etapas seguintes se resumem ao desenho do biscoito mordido e dos detalhes. Acho que consegui criar uma certa profundidade no móvel, para realmente dar a sensação de que ele havia sido mordido. Dei o acabamento com tinta marrom para pintar os detalhes e depois cobri o desenho com goma laca para protegê-lo.
Eu já tinha todas as tintas e materiais em casa, então esse foi um projeto bastante sustentável. Agora, essa cadeira Cimo original vai ainda viver comigo por muito tempo.
Eu estou bastante orgulhosa dessa transformação, que foi bastante desafiadora e empolgada para os próximos projetos.
