Greetings friends of Hive and the Architecture+Design community I want you to join me in a virtual trip through the second longest tunnel in Latin America, it is called Túnel de Oriente. I tell you that one afternoon I took a cab from the International Airport Jose Maria Cordova in Rio Negro to Medellin and it turns out that you have to go through the Túnel de Oriente, I did not know this tunnel although I have four years living in Medellin but without planning to know it I was inside this important Colombian and Latin American mega construction that is right here in the Department of Antioquia. Everything went like this, I'm sitting in the passenger seat and we entered the Túnel de Oriente, everything normal at first like any other tunnel, but as we move forward I am amazed with the journey because it seemed to have no end, it was really not a common tunnel. I expected to see the exit and we just kept going through that long tunnel for many minutes, almost half an hour.

The truth is that I did not know the name of the tunnel, I did not notice the sign at the entrance because I was distracted, but when we are going through the tunnel I am surprised because the trip was long. Wao, I am very surprised and I asked the cab driver the name of the tunnel and he tells me: “Túnel de Oriente, the second longest tunnel in Latin America”. Well, I said this is an opportunity to record it and I started taking pictures during the rest of the trip. I was very excited for the privilege of seeing the Túnel de Oriente because it is another marvel of modern architecture in Colombia.

This tunnel has a kind of road complex, because it has other shorter tunnels as alternate routes that lead to several viaducts that lead to other routes of the Aburrá Valley but my phone ran out of battery, bad time for it to happen. That's why I only bring you the tour of the famous Túnel de Oriente and I made several gifs for you to live the experience as a virtual reality 😁

Knowing the Túnel de Oriente is like being in front of a materialized proof of what humanity can do in terms of construction for the development of a country and the American continent. As I said, this is the second largest tunnel in Latin America, but there is also in Colombia the largest tunnel in America, hopefully one day I will be able to visit it and show it to you as well. But now I am happy with the experience of traveling through the Túnel de Oriente.

It is a very large construction with good maintenance. You can see that it is well illuminated, the roadway is in excellent condition with its striping on the pavement, with its edges and walls well painted and with all the signs well identified. This is a very orderly construction site and it is impossible not to notice it.

We seem to be reaching the end of the tunnel.

Yes, we are on our way out of the Orient Tunnel.

Well, it is a public service work where you can see the planning for its execution and subsequent attention for its useful life, you can see the respect for the rules of road infrastructure, safety, function and aesthetics of the work thinking of Colombians and tourists who use this important road artery, for me it is an honor to present the Túnel de Oriente, an outstanding work and road solution to improve communication in the region.

Seeing your moving pictures I feel a little claustrophobic, it's a very long tunnel, I think I would be a little afraid to be locked under a tunnel for so long.
Even so, I recognize that it is an amazing work!

Yes, being inside a tunnel like this can be a bit desperate, but I'm glad you went through it in the virtual reality trip that I prepared for you with my photos :) Greetings dear @jordy0827

Hey @sorprendente you are welcome.
Thanks for using @worldmappin 😘

Wow! It is a very long tunnel, it reminds me of the one on the central regional highway in the Valencia - Maracay section, of course this one is much longer.

Merry christmas!

Oh yes, I remember the tunnel between Maracay and Valencia and I'm glad you know this one in Colombia that is much longer, greetings dear @belkyscabrera

Stunning tunnel, feats man do concur.

Absolutely. Greetings!

What a long and wide tunnel, @sorprendente
I never experienced passing on that kind of tunnel because there's not so many road tunnels in my country.

Tunnels are impressive engineering works that facilitate our transportation and development. Thank you for showing us this particular one, a work of great magnitude.
