A Visit Inside the Rio De Janeiro Cathedral

After I left the Modern Art Museum I walked into the city with my compass set on finding the church that looked like a pyramid. I spotted it when we were in one of those crazy carnaval parades, the weed one haha. there was one parade where it was all about legalizing weed. you can see it in my last architecture post, as the thumbnail of the post.

It was a sunday and I was shocked by how mellow it was in downtown.

It was more quiet in downtown than in our air bnb, so i was having a very peaceful day so far.

I dont know if i even have any pictures of the cathedral from the outside from that day...

so ill drop one from the parade just for reference.

So anyway, this is a catholic church in rio. It was built in the style of the Mayan Pyramids.

I walked up to it and 4 giant doors on all four sides were open, so i kinda just slowly walked inside.

i was like "whoa" when i walked in...

It was really cool. there was a giant Cross on the ceiling that was white that looked it was spreading down the colored sections of the stained glass which has pictures of biblical narratives.

It was a sunny day so it was lit up inside. the stained glass work was really impressive though. the glass was so thick up close and contained so many little sections.

The visual patterning on the eyes was pretty captivating.
I'm not a huge church guy but since this one was a pyramid i thought it was pretty dope.

Looking straight up was cool.
Its crazy to think people build stuff like this.

There was definitely a good energy inside this church, maybe because there was a cool breeze flowing through the whole thing with the giant doors open combined with the colors of the stained glass.

You cant really get too close to the stained glass works to see how they were made because they are so high up.

Very cool though. I was glad i went inside this church.

It was quiet in the church and some people were praying. a decent amount of tourists were there but I had had enough and decided to see where else the day took me. So i decided to head into a ghetto area where a friend i met's studio was...

Till next time
