Lately I have been reviewing architectural buildings for sports purposes, as well as I talked about La Bombonerita in Puerto Cabello - Venezuela, or the Olympic Village in Naguanagua - Venezuela and other structures of great value to the country, and with peculiar characteristics with respect to its design. But now I speak to you as those who know it as the jewel of the east, the monumental stadium of Maturin, Monagas state - Venezuela.

This stadium is home to the Venezuelan first division team Monagas SC, but initially its project was developed to be one of the main venues for the 2007 Copa America in Venezuela. So this stadium was built from scratch, unlike other soccer stadiums in other states, which were simply modified or added more structures to the original model.

Unlike other soccer stadiums in Venezuela, this stadium was built exclusively for soccer sporting events, so we can see that the field area is closer to the stands, while other stadiums in the country have athletic tracks. Its construction was under the architectural design of three Venezuelan architects, Diego Zorio, Alejandro Cavanzo and Fernando de la Carrera, under the direction of the state government and the Venezuelan Ministry of Sports. Although this space has also been used for presentations of international and national musicians, outside of the sports activities known in this stadium.

The location of this building is in the industrial zone of the city of Maturin, because they wanted to use spaces where there was a better mobility for those attending in cars, and precisely is located between major highways that converge with each other, so it is easier to transit during major events. As we see in one of the photographs shown in this post, the imposing construction of this stadium from a significant distance.

With respect to its facilities inside, this stadium has a capacity for more than 50 thousand people, being the stadium with the largest capacity in Venezuela, it also has press boxes, VIP boxes, commercial premises; although some of these premises were never completed. In addition to what is required for the soccer players, such as the respective dressing rooms for each team and dressing rooms for the referees.

Of course, this structure is a work of modern architectural style, built mostly with materials such as concrete, steel, aluminum and plastic mostly for the seats of the fans attending this place. Besides, all the stands around the soccer field have their own roof, where the entire lighting system is attached to the playing field.

Personally, I can say that I have had the opportunity to attend an infinity of games in this stadium, and I can comment some flaws regarding its construction, having some negative points. Unfortunately, due to the rush to finish this stadium quickly, its drainage is very bad, because in times of heavy rains, the respective games can be cancelled due to this important point on the field.

On the other hand, I can comment that the seats can be a little uncomfortable, as I can see, they wanted to make a significant amount of seats, but without taking into account the comfort and quality for the fans, as well as some facilities inside the stadium that were left unfinished.

And as a last point, that can be mentioned about this stadium, is the fact that its location is very far from downtown, in an industrial area, very little traveled by public transport and even a little unsafe, especially when there are games at night, currently there is no good lighting in the area, and besides how difficult it can be to get to or leave this stadium, if you do not have your own car.

But despite some negative points about this structure, it is still an architectural marvel of our modernity in Venezuela, becoming one of the most important architectural works of Monagas state and the country, for its particular and impressive design.

All photographs are my own and were taken with a Samsung A32 smartphone.

At a glance this modern stadium looks sophisticated yet your unfortunate experiences with it have unexpectedly caught me by surprise. I wonder how that building's drainage problems manifest themselves. Do you mean that excess water would also flood the playing field @wilfredocav?

Unfortunately this is the case in my country, there are large-scale projects that end up being done badly and in response to the question, when it rains very hard, the soccer field floods a lot of water and because of poor drainage it takes so long to lower the water that the game is suspended. On two occasions I have already witnessed two games in that stadium that ended up being suspended due to the flooded field.

Even the drainage of this stadium is considered the worst among all the professional soccer stadiums in Venezuela, but it is also due to the bad administration of the government, which is in charge of this stadium, in doing the maintenance badly. As far as I know, the field has been maintained several times, but they never solved the drainage problem, which from my point of view is very important. And well of course it is good to show about these great architectural spaces, but it is inevitable to mention about their problems.

Oh okay, I understand. It's such a pity that awesome architecture gets compromised due to the negligence of decision-makers. Besides, it's also a waste of money to invest in massive public projects that do not perform according to their original functions and designs. Hopefully, those poor scenarios would be corrected before more damage is caused. 😊

Hopefully they can take care of correcting these problems, or else delegate these spaces to other entities that really want to commit to their maintenance and recovery.

Reliving beautiful moments in that place is definitely priceless, thanks for sharing my friend. I was always proud that it was in my state of Monagas.

It is always spectacular to appreciate this work of architecture in Monagas.

It seems to me something very wonderful to know that you have that great stadium, where you have a complete 360-degree view and nothing better than plastic seats that are easy to clean and perfectly withstand rain storms.

It is true that this type of seat material is more manageable for maintenance.

I work in construction and I've worked on stadiums, I found the article interesting thanks for sharing.

Hey how interesting, I would like to know about your experience in your job, you must know a lot more details regarding construction. Regards !

How cool this place to play soccer on the outside has the aesthetics of one built in La Guaira, the difference is that the one in La Guaira looks much smaller! I think it's a baseball field, but both look equally beautiful and functional!

That baseball stadium in La Guaira, I have not had the opportunity to see it, but it would be interesting to see those facilities. Greetings !

Very impressive gym, spacious and everything well organised. although there are some things that still need to be addressed but I think it is very good to use, because in my area there is no stadium this wide

There are details that need to be improved, especially with respect to the playing field, because it is the main facility used for the games.

you are so right, it must continue to be improved so that stadium users can play successfully

I have the joy of having visited this stadium and the truth is that it is impressive! Not only because of its size but also because it is very comfortable for us as spectators because of the proximity we have to the field and the access to restrooms, parking lots and service areas. Now, as you rightly say about the seats and other details such as the location, I think it is a matter of waiting for them to be changed and the transportation to be more efficient. Maturin is small but it is usually complicated to move around. A big hug, good article.
