entry reflections 237

the Telemarks Canal opened in 1892 and was an important connection from inland to the coast for people, goods and timber. it is a marvel of engineering, 105 km through rugged hilly terrain with 18 locks and a total height difference of 72 meters. nowadays goods and timber are transported on roads but the canal is well maintained as a historical and cultural waterway very much as it was a century ago. it's a popular attraction for visitors on private boats as well as the two old passenger steamships that have been in operation on the canal for many years.

i took these reflection shots a lovely summer day in july when we enjoyed a ride on the M/S Henrik Ibsen.

The level of conservation that maintains this beautiful natural place is marvelous, and you've managed to play an excellent role in perpetuating these exquisite reflections you give us.
Congratulations on the result!

The importance of these canals is largely forgotten today. But they opened up a surge of economic growth.

!INDEED. it was a much needed way to get goods, especially timber to the lower areas where there were falls to supply power to industry and mills back in the days before motor vehicles and roads.
