last year one of the local schools held a flea market and drew a good crowd. it's not surprising because things are generally very expensive in Norway yet people are constantly buying new things and discarding the old even though the things are often still in good are at least acceptable condition. rather than throw them in the trash many people prefer to donate to support an athletic team or a school band or the likes.
anyway at this school there was an outdoor ping pong table on the premises where somebody has placed a half full blue water bottle. i wasn't so much interested in the table or the bottle as much as i was the shadows they were casting. the simple rhythmic lines of the plastic net contrasted nicely with the bottle's blue shadow with some interesting detail going on
and i like how the color of the net's shadow changes from the green table to the outer white line. surprisingly, the shadow of the net on the white line is almost as blue as the shadow from the bottle
but for my contest entry i have chosen this more minimalistic image with just the straight lines of both the net and it's shadow. i find it's simplicity quite satisfying.
