The sun has returned to the mountains, and the grey gloom of winter has finally moved on.
Hello to all my cyber friends on this glorious sunny day. The temperatures are rising and the daylight is longer. Holy, Happy Spring to all.
We have been busy preparing our gardens for planting the veggies. With the warm sunshine streaming down upon the #homestead my motivation is back to get outside and enjoy the simple tasks of farm living and of course, #shadowhunting.
The seeds are starting to sprout so it's all hands in the dirt, quite litteraly. But I cannot ignore the shadows even if it means getting my carmera a little dirty too.
The shadows are everywhere I look. On the deck where the potatoes are sunning themselves and the grill is preheating.
The steps to our sunroom are decorated nicely in shadows.
The trees above cast shadows on the deck reminding me of the cool canopy that will immerge as the trees reach their full bloom.
The potted hemlock tree that I have been babying for several years gets into the act and may find a new home in the fall. The plant hanger casts it's shadow to remind me of the all the annuals that will bloom all summer long.
The sunshine motivates me like nothing else. I have a spring in my step as I look forward to another growing season at the #farm.
A special thanks to @melinda010100, @annephilbrick @seckorama, and all the #shadowhunters who participate in this wonderful community contest #SMASh.
Happy hunting y'all!
Enjoy the sunshine and shadows!

Well i am glad winter is receding where you are! This is the back yard as of a out 5 minutes ago.
Nothing like a little snow a couple days after the start of the yard work to falsely give you the impression you got an early start!
Heres to a long summer of blooms and canopies and shadows!
Good morning kind sir, we have the same thing going on here. It's supposed to be nasty all day, snow squalls and just above freezing temps. It's killing me after last week's gorgeous weather but mother nature is all screwed up this year, so we'll just roll with it.
Ya. Easy to roll with it when we will be back up to summery temperatures in 2 days!
hahaha it's snowing where I live in NYS too!
It's a good thing that you got some shadows while the sun was out because the next week is supposed to b cold and cloudy with snow flurries in the forecast for several days.
UGH!
We'll have to do some inside work, got anything in mind?
Nope!!!!!!!

Such a lovely place! Spring gives a special lift to me too, and I can't stay out of my garden for long; as tiny as it is, there is still plenty to see and do. Too bad it's snowing today, after a solid week of warm and beautiful weather.
Why are the potatoes sunning themselves? Is this something I should be doing with my slips before I plant them? Or are they getting ready to go on the grill?
The potatoes you see sunning themselves, are doing just that. When planting seed potatoes you should set them out for several days before planting. Doing this will activate a chemical called solanine in the potato and it will start to sprout. The solanine will start to turn the seed potato green which is a good thing, but the potatoes that the seed potato produces should be kept shaded at all times. This is why the potatoes you are growing need to be covered with a mulch, such as hay.
EATING GREEN POTATOES CAN BE DEADLY. Sometimes a part of a potato will be exposed to the sun and that part will turn green. When that happens you can cut away the green and the remainder of the potato can be eaten.
When you talk about potato slips, I've only planted them once and they were sweet potato slips.
OK I think I have seed potatoes to plant. I got them from Fedco. They are in brown paper bags at the moment, and will be planted next week. So I have to put them out in the sun for a few days?
Goodness I have eaten a great many green potatoes over the years, even raw. I had no idea. Thanks for the info
When you go to plant the seed potatoes, you can cut some of the larger ones, over 2 inches, in half. Each piece should have at least 2 eyes. Before planting the cut ends should be treated with a sulfur product to protect them against rot in cool, wet conditions.
I got this from Tractor Supply.
Good luck with your garden!
Hi @owasco,I am glad the hubby filled you in on the potato sunbathing, he knows all about spuds, if you need any more info, he's your man.
I am getting itchy to get outside, but it's been dang cold the last few days hasn't it?.
It can't last too much longer, I hope 🤞
Yesterday was very cold, and all I did was go out to gaze lovingly and to encourage my little beauties to thrive. I love them all so much! I swear I have more love in my heart now that I am growing my own food. The exchange, the connection, so cool.
Go New York hivers
Snow on my daffodils! I want to start planting things. Great shadows! Thanks for entering the Shadow Contest again 🌞
Good afternoon @melinda010100, my daffs are all slumped over, we had a mix last night of rain/snow. I did cut a large bouquet for the table before the weather hit so I am still enjoying their brilliant color. Love it!
Love the gify, thanks
Very excited to FEEL the spring sunshine in your post!
Oh, you got that right, today started dark, cold, and gloomy. But by noon the sun was out, and the temp rose to 62 degrees. Can you feel the heat? We finished the new planter boxes in the front yard that was strung with jute to allow the morning glories to climb, can't wait to plant them. I just have to hold off for another week or so and I will plant those nice fat seeds.
So excited for you. Thought of @thebigsweed yesterday as we dig out our lost hops. It's too hard to maintain but I will miss it!
Back to easier gardening like flowers and veggies and natives. Vines must go!
I dug out another section last year and now we have only two small beds of them left. It sure is tough digging them all up.
It's good that the weather is getting sunny, I'm also passionate about enjoying the simplicity of working in the garden
I love sunny days, shadows appear everywhere, you just have to be careful to catch them
