Breaking Free ~ Shadow Hunters Contest ENTRY: Round 145

in Shadow Hunters3 years ago

The first few shadow image were captured at work, back when I used to work. I retired so, in a way, I really have "broken free" of my old life. With that in mind, I offer the following shadows as my entry into round 145 of the shadow hunters contest, created by @melinda010100 and judged again this week by @annephilbrick.

Besides retiring, I moved from California to Texas, breaking free of retirement-crippling taxes and an out-of-control governor. The following images were captured in my old house and old neighborhood:

Lastly, I sold my car before moving, a 2014 Subaru BRZ. I really did love my boxer engine. Don't worry, we're still a Subaru family, just down to one car.

Well, that's it! Any new shadows will have to come from my new life. I've broken free.

I keep stopping by to see if you have posted anything new. I am anxious to hear how the move has gone and if you are loving your new house

We love the new house. I finally got my computer up and running, and now we have intermittent power and no water. The power actually went off today as I was starting to edit a photo (fog, not a shadow) and has been two hours off/45 minutes on since Monday morning. I guess Texas invested in green energy and sold the rest of its energy to the Northeast. Luckily, my neighbors have water, so we’ve been borrowing enough to flush the toilet. I will post something soon though. Thanks for your interest :-)

Don't you just have to wonder who is in charge that we can find ourselves in this situation in this country? I have a natural gas fireplace and my kitchen stove is gas so those are my backup plan if the power goes out. I have a well so if there is no power my water pump does not work. I always have water stored, but having a fresh water spring in my yard is my back up plan. Our temps got above zero today.

We have a propane fireplace, stove and grill (250 gallon tank), so we’re warm and able to cook. We’re using oil lamps for some “romantic” light, but have flashlights and lanterns too. We have lots of drinking water, but we’re saving it for drinking and getting water from our neighbor for washing dishes and flushing the toilets. We even melted some snow on the stove :-). We’ll definitely store more water after this. We do have a generator, but hate to use out for rolling blackouts. My wife did sit in the car yesterday to charge her iPad. We watch TV on it when the power is out. We have good cell phone reception, and WiFi when the power on. Not too rough.

You are well prepared! It takes a lot of snow to get a little water, doesn't it? Good luck!

You truly have broken free! And you also have been holding out on us! Look at all these great shadow shots. I'm glad you are finding time to post again. You have been missed around here.

Thanks Melinda! Hopefully once we move into our home I'll find time to post more regularly.

Moving is a huge amount of work and I can't even imagine trying to do it with all that is going on right now.

This is our 13th move in 40 years of marriage, including two moves overseas, and it has been the most stressful. Can't wait till we finally move in and start unpacking.

Thanks so much @annephilbrick. It was a little bittersweet going through them, as they brought back memories (especially pushing a grandchild on the swing!).
