Hello everybody
A heron perched on a branch by a pond. This area is fertile with many large trees for shade.
I took these photos when I went to worship at Sumiyoshi Taisha Shrine. This is considered the oldest shrine in Japan and is beautiful. Inside the shrine, many large trees make the atmosphere cool and shady.
There is a pond in the back of this shrine which is a pond where fish and turtles live and egrets are waiting to catch fish to eat as food.
While tricky, they tend to walk slowly in the water or stand still waiting to catch their prey. Most of the food is aquatic. But he grabbed mammals and birds the size of a pigeon and pressed them firmly into the water before swallowing down his stomach through its thin but flexible throat.
